I just won this EL Header for $100 shipped. From first looking at it I thought it was the Synic Motorsports EL header. Then after further reading on NASIOC, it seems people think it is the synic header without the synic badge on it. Anyway, so far there have been pretty good reviews on it. I should have it next week so I will post up more after I get it. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Turb...m14&_trkparms=72:727|66:2|65:12|39:1|240:1318
Looks cool. I'm rockin an ebay un-el header and ive had no issues other than it rubbing a little but a little grinding fixed that. Keep us posted. Are you planning on tuning after the install? I'm curious of any hp gains.
"Gain much performance and torque."-Ebay How could you go wrong with a promise like that. Let us know how it fits and how the car reacts. I actually looked at the same ad this week. For the price just the weight savings are worth it as long as it does what it should do as a header.
Yup, I will let yall know when I get it in. I am not getting a tune afterwards and honestly, it might be a month or so before I even install it since I will have to get a new up pipe because the header I have now has a 3-bolt flange up pipe.
Yeah, I know but I was looking to go rotated or EWG at the least. Can't find any of those really cheap anywhere
Ok, I got the headers in yesterday. They look to have thick flanges and pretty good welds. Not as nice as my Maddad/GTSpec genII/Other 3 bolt uppipe UEL header but not far away from the quality. I will take some pics of it tonight before I wrap it. I will see Matt (Slowrx) this weekend so I will show it to him as well. It LOOKS IDENTICAL to the Synic Motorsports headers. I won mine for $51 + $40 s&h on ebay.
I took some pics the other night before I wrapped them. They are from my phone so some of the pics are not so great in quality. The one thing that I was impressed with was that all of the tubes were ported. I thought that alone would be worth the $50 I paid for them
interesting, bring it with you if you don't mind, I would like to put it on this motor I have on the stand and see what the clearances look like. It looks pretty decent from the pictures.
I installed the header today. The header fit perfectly with little wrestling to get it on. Just a few taps from a mallet. It was easier to get on than my stock manifold. Unfortunately the EWG setup did not fit so well with my Invidia Catted DP so I had to get another setup. Should have the car back running on Wednesday and will try to get a video of how it sounds on the car.
Hey Integroid... long time no.. hahah since just the other day actually. So this header didnt work with your DP? You do have the normal invidia catted DP right?
Oh no...the header worked fine...The External Wastegate setup (upipie, wastegate, dumptube) I had would not fit with my Invidia Catted Downpipe. The dumptube would not clear the catted section of the downpipe.
Looks like the fujitsubo headers... https://www.upscaleautomotive.com/p-24057-fujitsubo-turbo-header-for-02-07-subaru-wrx-sti.aspx Ebay: *the* place to save thousands and get the same product.
Yup, from what I understand, Synic Motorsports had a company in china make a replica, was selling the replica for $700. Now the CHinese company must be dumping them so on ebay they went. They are identical even down to the porting of all the tubes. The only difference is that the SYnic header has their logo plate welded on.
No, I took off the UR EWG setup and got just a plain uppipe. My DP wouldnt fit your car. It is made for a Legacy GT
No tune but I am going rotated soon My impressions at first were not so good because I accidentally had a bend in one of the lines going to my WG actuator that was causing the car to not hit full boost. Once I fixed that and reset my ecu the car ran great. The sound is completely different. I wouldnt say it sounds like a Honda at all but it doesnt sound like a Subaru either. For under $100 I would say this is the best manifold for the money as long as it doesn't crack in the next 6 months The engine runs a lot smoother and has absolutely no problems hitting target boost. Honestly it is probably +or- 5-10 hp from my 3-bolt Maddad header. I dont think a video would do it any justice because I havent heard a video sound like my car does now.
I'd enjoy hearing how it sounds in person. I am also curious to hear dougs or scotts impressions after tuning it.
Ya definitely a function over form kind of guy, lol. BUT at the same time, I don't want my car sounding like a fart can honda either, lol.
Yes, and I have a set for sale Actually all of the 3 bolt uppipe headers are the same with different name plates welded on. The maddad goes a step further and welds an EGT bung on the #4 runner.
Wrong. And your Maddad is UEL where mine is EL. Maddad's headers have a different size velocity stack inside of them. They are not all the same. They are made by the same company but with different levels of quality. Maddad's are also thicker.
Sorry, I meant all the 3-bolt UEL headers are the same. Also, I am fairly certain all the 3-bolt EL headers will be the same as well.
It's posts like this that hurts a truly great product. Mine weren't flat either and I called Rich (owner of Maddad). He then called the company and they explained it to him. They purposely did it like that and due to the 3 bolt design on that flange when you torque them down they end up being flat. I was very very wary of this and when I installed the headers I purposely left off my shield so I can simply drive the car up on block and crawl under it to check for leaks. I've check while warm, while hot, and while ice cold and they simply DO NOT LEAK! Also Rich has defended this repeatedly on other sites and has said himself if one is leaking he will replace or 100% refund on the part. He has yet to get one back. The only leaks I've read about were leaks at the uppipe to header flange. I've talked with every one of those owners and all of them were installing their parts in the wrong sequence initially and had warped the flanges. Install your parts right and you won't have an issue.
Right on, what is their current going price on the new version of the header? Most likely not as cheap as the ebay one, but maybe better quality if the ebay ones were haveing cracking issues.
Huh, well might be doing that one day when I switch to the 2.5 engine. Any clue what type of steel the header is made from?
All about the Maddad ELH. http://www.iwsti.com/forums/vendor-...ups/119872-maddad-tm-equal-length-header.html
Holy long thread!! Looks like I have some reading to do...but so far no word on the type of steel used, but it may be buried in the 5000000 pages of the thread.
Actually it is posts like mine that help the community. If a flange is not flat, then it is not flat, you are the only person on the entire IWSTI board that has a sloped flange that does not leak. Maddad makes some great products, I have his 3"-2.5" intermediate pipe so I am not here to tarnish the name. I honestly think his response to the sloped flange is total BS. If a flange is not flat, then it will leak, I know several people has to get the flange milled flat to fix the problem. I do not understand how a sloped flange matters as to how they are bolted down, 3 bolt flange or not. Carry on with the Ebay header, I hope to see some good results.
