Hey All - need your assitance! I've had HID's in my car already ('03) and they utilized both headlamps connectors. One fine day a bulb finally burns out (after two years) and I have ordered a new kit. Its a new kit that uses the same xenon tube for Hi and Low by switching a built-on-the-bulb relay moving the bulb within the housing to the correct position. Heres my catch: This new kit only uses (1) of the headlamps connectors to switch power on a relay to power both ballast. Now that the other headlamps connector isn't used and just dangles...my foglights don't work. I know they worked when both connectors were used and connected...so...how do I get my foglights back in the loop?? Thanks fella's for any advise!
just wire the fogs separately like they come on when the parking lights do. Not sure how. There is a write up somewhere
I would do that - however I've already applied HID's to my fog's as well. My old setup put an HID ballast on every factory connector and everything worked great. This new kit only uses one of my factory headlight connectors and I think that b/c the other headlight conenctor hangs free that it doesn't let my fog lights switch on...any ideas on how to incorporate the free hanging headlight connector?
So what do you fella's think? Is it plausible or possible to take the two connectors that go to your factory headlight lamps and tie each matching terminal together? High Beam transmission wire to High Beam wire Low Beam transmission wire to Low Beam wire and Ground to Ground Essentially making one single connector out of two, that shouldn't cause any wierd voltage problem would it? I mean its all 12V and Ground....
Anybody...anybody...? No ideas as to whether I can simply tie each leg of the factory connectors together?
Well newer harness setups (esp custom ones not chinese made ones) only come with one headlight connection to use as a trigger...because in reality you only need one. Maybe I misunderstood you though...
Yeah see, I used to have it set-up this way: You got (2) headlights and (2) fog lights right...each one has a harness connector. OK... My old set-up used a ballast connected to EACH connector at each light, so a total of (4) ballast connected to (4) connectors... well...this new kit only utilizes (1) of my regular headlamp connectors and after the install, the fog lamps do not get power anymore. The only thing that changed was the fact that "both" regular headlamp connectors are not used anymore...just one. SO... My question is mainly this, if I create a "Y" connection between each of my regular headlamp connectors (by tieing each line of the right headlamp connector to the corresponding wire on the right headlamp connector) will I have any kindof wiring issue with that? Cause I don't want to fry any kind of relay circuit driving my regular headlamp lines.
if you have a relay that is being switched using the factory harness, then no you won't have a problem. if you switch the foglamps from the headlight harness, the foglamps will come on anytime the headlights do (if I am reading you correctly) I would not, however, drive anymore than one ballast from the OEM headlight connector
use a relay to trigger the foglights. I would not just tie them together with the headlamps. if I'm understanding your situation correctly lol. do the fogs have their own switch in the car or do they just come on with the headlamps?
Theres a switch in my '02 to the left of the steering wheel. You didnt turn off that switch did you? I know mine wont come on unless the headlights are on
