i went to the lovely dealership out here in el paso and the guy told me that the 02 tsb fuel leak was only on the rubber hoses just under the manifold on the turbo side... now what i understood was that it could be the hoses or at the fuel rail / injector...... at least thats what my forum diving has come up with is this correct and also pls vote if youve had this leak
My leak was in the area of the TSN - under the mainfold - turbo side. However the TSB fix has you replacing the rail as well as the line. I think the purpose is to better align the rail to the line and not have the fuel line pulled at an angle. FYI, the parts were about $110 at the dealer (with a bit of a discount). You need the rail, fuel line, and the 2 intake manifold gaskets.
i repaired the rubber line but now i cant get the car to keep running im thinking air bubble and how do i get it out it sounds like it gets fuel the imediately dies then if i start up and pump the gas its kinda ruff... almost like the mas air flow sensor isnt plugged in but i it is
I smell gas coming from my 02, more than likely the same issue. How much did the dealer quote to fix?
im living in tx till november so i couldnt tell u but out here there is only 1 dealer and there expensive so id just call one of atls dealers and get a quote
I had the fuel smell when I first got mine (2001). I took a long philips head screw driver and tightened all the clamps on the fuel lines and the smell was gone. Total cost: 0
Im considering switching all the hoses with chain metal hoses or watever. instead of the rubber ones.
i think i have a bubble in the line every thing back together ... and it cranks perfectly and then dies and if i pump the gas i can keep it going for a minute or so but it sounds awful(likes its running out of gas).... could this be because the car is jacked up on 1side... and theres only about 1/4 of tank in the car.... and how do i get rid of a bubble in the fuel line? oh and i didnt take off my intake manifold b/c i could fit my hand under there so i didnt see the point
I did the TSB and they replace the line and the part of the rail. It leaks at the connector. You definitely need to pull the U/I for this. Sounds like you have a fuel pressure issue as far as your car stalling.
your fuel lines are reversed. top line goes to filter, middle line is the return and the bottom is the vent line (the one with the spring clamp)
this would all be true if i disconnected them all .. all i did was replace 1 leaky hose under the manifold its got to be a bubble or something i used some starting fluid to check and with every spray it rans great for a sec then sputtered then died again
I believe my leak was "the rubber hoses under the manifold". But i never fixed it. The only time i smelled gasoline was, if it was freezing cold outside. I also never smelled the gasoline even at freezing temp. I let my car warm up and drive away for about 1 minute. I guess the gasoline smell would be blown away by the wind. The only way that i smelled gasoline, was if I turned on my car and i immediately turned my AC/heat.
the leak is fixed and the maf got dirty and backwards once i figured it out the car cranked up fine... i felt like an idiot
I head same problem, did same thing and smell was gone. :naughty: :naughty: But its no cold any more, so i did it for no reason.
Would an STi made in 2003 have this issue? My car stinks up my whole garage when I fill the tank and it's parked. I drive the car with the windows down and smell gas while driving and full tank too. It's nauseating!
The leak under the manifold did not have anything to do with the tank level. Yours sounds like something in the fuel fill area (evap. cannister?).
Does that canister need to be replaced at a certain interval? It does smell more at the rear of the car vs the front. But upon a sniff test, I can't isolate it.
