I'm looking for a reputable shop that deals with Subaru heads on a regular basis, and knows their stuff.. don't need any port work, but a good rebuild of a set of 04 wrx heads with crower cams.. any suggestions would be helpful.

I live in east AL and don't have any problems driving some distance for good work. Unfortunately no one around here is worth a crap.. :unamused:

Chandler you should let WJM do it for you. I guarantee it'll be right.

A simple rebuild and setting the valve lash isn't hard. I wouldn't think that you would have to have a Subaru specific shop do it

Yeah. Just don't get the lash 'in spec'. Make sure it's dead on in the middle. That's the key to a quiet valvetrain.

You'd be surprised :unamused: I've already had issues with two shops here.

Can you tell me what kind of turn-around time to expect? Do you guys have any heads already built and ready to go?

Doesn't he live in FL now?

I'll also check out Ball engines, thanks Matt.

Yeah he does. I'm trying to get LiquidForce's heads but doesn't look like it will go through. Will probably let Maxwell power do my heads (again if LiquidForce's don't come through) since they are doing my short block.

Is that bare castings? No cams, valves, springs, etc?

From what I understand Dom is meticulous and builds some very quiet motors. They say he's ANAL about making sure everything is dead on and right.

For comparison a set of complete Cosworth head's (which ours DESTROY performance-wise) are $4,999... I believe that it's about $1200 more to make ours complete, so $2700 for the same setup that won us 4 Overall Gran Championships...

We've had 3 sets of them across our dyno in the last year. All with 35R's. Lucy slaughtered them in peak power and power-band...

Still doesn't prove the heads. Are all the other parts on the other cars IDENTICAL? Did ALL of them have the same custom intake manifold?

Obviously not everything else was identical, but what we, and Cobb, discovered is that Subaru head's have so much core shift that running the same CNC port job on lots of heads requires either a very mild port, or you can end up dangerously close to the water jackets. Really awesome Subaru heads, IMHO, have to be hand-ported.

The main type of racing I do is drag, plus some occasional road course.. but at the moment I'm on a budget, so I'm gonna have to get the best I can for the money.. I have an extra set of 04 wrx heads, so I'm just gonna have them rebuilt with a new valvetrain, call it a day, and hopefully be out no more than 1k.
