So, my CEL is on and I stop by AutoZone to get the code pulled and reset. I already knew what it was, so really I just needed to get it reset. I tell the guy this and he takes their scanner out to my car, reads the code, shows me what it is, and pulls the scanner out of the port. I politely remind him that I needed it reset as well. He then tells me that they can only pull the code, but not reset due to liability on emissions and whatnot. I told him to look at my license plate, it's already passed emissions for the year and I'm not going to be any 'trouble' for them if they pull it. He tells me that he can't, but to try Advance. I say thanks, and get on my merry way. Head up to Advance, walk in, tell them I need to borrow their scanner so I can reset my ECU. He says, sorry, can't hand it over to you, and we can't reset the ECU with it. Great....:wall: :grr: So now, I need to borrow an OBD-ii scanner for 37 seconds so that I can clear my code. I would pull the battery, but it's too much trouble and don't really feel like setting my stereo up again. Can anyone hAlp?
Try Oreilly's. I have had them clear a few for me when I was trying to sort out a general misfire code on my wife's car and they never gave me any grief. I would be discrete about asking though because I've been told by different stores that they are not supposed to clear codes. You could always tell them that you just installed the part needed to fix the problem and ask them to clear it.
This must be something recent, another friend just told me the other day they wouldn't reset it at advance for him either. He was in vidalia, no where near any county that has emissions, yet they told him they couldn't do it because of emissions. I never had a problem, but then again haven't had it done in the last 6 months.
my next step is going to be to purchase one, reset, and return...screw them and their retarded ass policies!
Have found them for as little as 50$ at Walmart, not sure if they still carry the really cheap one anymore.Equus??
can you not use an AP? mine's unmarried now as I'm about to sell it if you want to swing by tomorrow and clear it
I live in East Snobb also and have a OBDII scanner. I am in Roswell on the border with Marietta. Let me know.
that has to be something new because just last month I went into a autozone or advanced I cant remember what it is and asked for the scanner. They handed it over to me with no questions asked...I cleared the code and went on my merry way. I dont know if your in Gwinnett but it was the one at the corner of riverside and 120.
I'm in Marietta. Apparently it is something new as they both told me they just received a message from their respective Corporate offices instructing NOT to hand over the scanner or clear codes. I too, have done this in the past, with as little as 2 months ago, but yesterday, they denied me.
