Yeap. There is a privateer that still runs and does fairly well.

Next year they are going to a spec engine and drivetrain(inline 4, boxer no longer legal). I don't know if it will be worth watching. The FIA(mainly a guy name Max) has really done their best to ruin F1 and the WRC in recent years in the name of "cost control".

Didn't realize FIA had anything to do with WRC, but if that's the case doesn't surprise me. Guess that new toyota/Subaru venture may have an inline 4 option they can put in WRC maybe.

Heard that as well, but I was saying that if Subaru wanted to venture back into wrc, maybe they could use that chassi and a Toyota motor.

Why is the boxer engine not legal in WRC any more?

In an effort to reduce costs, the FIA has mandated that in 2010 they will be using a spec engine and transmission. It will be an more powerful version of the engines used in the S2000 spec class(no not Honda S2000). It will still be turbo'ed but it will be about 50hp and a shit ton of torque down on the current engines. The engine is an inline 4. Subaru knew that this rule change was coming and left before the official vote that was held before this season started. They obviously felt that even though they had lobbied against the change that it would be approved and they were right, it was.
