whats up fellas...my 03 wrx's check engine light came on and i read the codes and it said misfiring on 1,3 and 4th cylinders and also a bad O2 sensor...ive changed the plugs and checked wires and the coil packs and everything looks good ...but its still doing it and it high rpms its obviously missing Anyone else had similar problems and if so what solved it???
sounds like the coil packs are bad. did you check continuity on them? an easy wasy to check coil packs is to borrow someone's coil packs you know are good and drive for a while and see if the check engine light comes back. if it does, its not the coil packs.
i dont have any friends that own wrxs...im stationed at fort stewart,ga and ive only seen a few running around
no i havent...could that cause this...its an all of a sudden problem and i find it hard to believe that 3 coil packs went bad all at once
i live just outside the east gate (well 20 miles east of there, at the very end of 144). it can happen. there are other subarus in savannah. check the savannah area gtg threads and Pm those guys
I would guess bad fuel if it happened all of the sudden.. not sure here.(That would be my first inclination if it was a Toyota.)
Did this happen after you changed your plugs? You did not swap the coilpacks around by accident when you reinstalled them did you?
Wouldn't quite rule that out Alex, but he shows only 3 cylinders. I'm thinking he knocked something loose and hasn't found the problem. Double check all your vac lines, my problem was the vac line just before the turbo inlet for the PCV.
I think the OP was saying that he changed the plugs in response to the misfires, rather than the problems appearing immediately after he did the plug change. I think you might be right, as it is odd that there is one cylinder that's not throwing a code. I would carefully check all vac and intake lines. As for the gas issue, I would consider that if the problems coincided with a fill up. If it happened halfway halfway through a tank rather than within a few miles of the station, I would have my doubts. It would also be odd to have bad gas and a misfire on three cylinders, rather than all of them. I would like to see what the specific codes are... sometimes misfires accompanied by oscillating lean/rich codes can be the direct result of a bad primary 02 sensor. (At least, this is the case with many other cars... I don't imagine it would be that much different with a Subaru.) If the car is higher mileage, replacing the sensor would be my next step after checking all of the lines. I know just throwing parts at a car is a bad method of solving any problem, but if it's getting up near 100,000 miles, at least you know it's about overdue for that piece anyway.
Yes it also threw a code for the o2 sensor...i got 68,000...but i dont have cats or anything...ill check on a sensor today...thanks to everyone who gave their 2 cents
if its the rear o2 sensor then there is a simple fix you can do simply by adding 2 spark plug defoulers to it. its its the front, then it is most likely bad
