Hello everyone at wrxatlanta, I am looking around at a few different sti's and just really want to know what I should be looking for if I am ready to purchase one. They all range from 60k to 75k as far as milegae goes and the exterior of each actually looks great. Any insight would be great! I am looking forward to learning alot through the forum. thanks. Jordan
Welcome to the forum. There is a great deal that just got posted today for a 2004 STI by the guys at TopSpeed. You should check that out. Make sure you find out what your insurance is going to cost before you buy. Many are surprised when an STI is more than a Corvette! Good luck on your search.. Brandon
Welcome to the site. This is a great place to get the advice your looking for. I am fairly new myself, and everyone is extremely helpful. Good luck on your purchase.
STI's drivetrains are pretty stout. Some consider the 05 to be the ideal car due to: DCCD bias percentages 35% Front 65% rear Larger Hub, wider wheels and wheel arches Still has the short 3-4-5 gearing (not a plus if you intend to dragrace) 6-speed still has an oil pump Interior changes These cars tend to be driven hard so watch for accident damage. I wouldn't be too scared of a mildly modded STI if it was done correctly (not hacked and ghetto)
If you are looking at them online, post the links on here so we can check them out. There are usually tell tale signs that will tell you to stay away...
Welcome to the site! You'll be better off with an '05 or '06. Post a link to what you're looking at and we'll help.
Welcome the the boards! Like others have said post so e links so we can take a look at them and help you out! :wavey:
I think you will find most of the guys on here (and gals) are great and more than willing to help out. Sti is a very cool car. I really wish looking back I had saved a bit more and got one instead of my wrx.
Thx for all the great feedback, here are a few links if you would like to take a look. Again the white 04 has 85k miles, but I know how dependable these cars are. Oh, I failed to mention that my wife and I are expecting 2, thats right, 2 new additions to our family around march 2010. She has the suv, and I kinda figured this would be sufficent to haul everything around but if I'm incorrect please let me know! Thanks. Here is the link:\ http://cosmo-motors.ebizautos.com/inventory.aspx?_makef=Subaru& I really, really want the limited but its out of my price range. I am looking at the silver and white mostly. Thanks again for all the help! Jordan
Congrats on the two new additions to your family! I personally wouldn't buy an STI for two kids if it were my only car. It will work but it's too small, IMO. Having to stick a carseat in the back, let alone two, will be a headache. But if your wife already has an SUV, the STI will make do if you're ever in a pinch. Go get it!!! I'll refrain from commenting on the prices since I'm not familiar with the market. I would, however, avoid any car that was modded improperly (BOV, CAI, etc). Well modded ones, however, are a different story.
that was another concern as well bc I did notice some type of bov and short ram intake on the silver sti, ah decisions decisions...
the white one has an ebay front mount on it and LOOKS like an upgraded/different turbo of some sort (looks polished and/or slightly larger than the stock). obviously has an aftermarket exhaust, looks like turboxs carbon ti also looks as if there is either meth or some sort of injection system (judging by the switch that looks ghetto in the empty switch plate there) in addition to a boost controller. just by looking at it. i mean who knows the guy could have just put all that on there and never driven it hard or he could have driven the piss out of it. how many miles do all those mods have on them? questions the dealer should have asked the previous owner so they can in turn give you the proper answers
that is true, when I find that info out should I be skeptical of the high mileage or just go for it. I know these engines are known for the notorious beatdowns received and they just still keep on ticking, but I dont want to buy a car only for me to turn around and put it back in a shop. Of coarse I will ask if timing and other belts have been changed as well as a basic tune up before purchase. But anything else??
