this is my 2000 2.5rs in the makin only has some simple mods as of now intake, throttle body spacer, full exhaust with hks carbon ti muffler, has ignition system but took it off today was causing miss fire so ill have to get that fixed umm underdrive pulleys i think future mods bigger injectors avo full turbo kit/or maybe super charger found one lastnight still thinkin on that one 3 angle valve job port and polished head and now for the pics......
looks good! btw, (I was following you in chat), it's NOT the STi block in that car, unless the previous owner replaced the block
not being an ass hole but if u look it up the 2000 model 2.5rs is the only year that they came with the low compression sti motor with 50/50 lsd look it up
wrong, not being an ass. but there was never a 2.5l sti (therefore there was never a 2.5l sti motor) ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD until 2004, and then it was only in the US
 not so much. I have the SAME fucking motor in my car and it's NOT an STi motor as there was NO 2.5L STi block in 2000. nice try.
98 and down had the EJ25 DOHC. 99-01 RS had an EJ251, which is SOHC. the STi block is an EJ255 or EJ257(depending on year)(back to DOHC). I've been around a LOT longer than you have. kthxbai
slamming newbies? matt just pointed out it wasnt the sti block. and then he got smart:hsnono: lol. nonetheless just trying to educate!
It won't be on the motor. the only stamping you will really see is just EJ25 just under the alternator
just research on the internet first then you would know these things and not get screwed. i always research for MONTHS before i buy a vehicle.. but the motor is labeled right in the middle on top of the block right behind the alternator.
You can always do an wrx or sti swap. RSConvert just did one (WRX swap) with great results. As long as the chassis is in good shape and the current drive train is still reliable you have a nice car. Those cars are getting hard to find. Enjoy!
pictures dont work. Also, last night when we talked, you said "I already have my turbo kit here ready to be installed". So why are you looking at SC?
If is the money you're conserned about, than I understand. But installed that TC on your car might be just as easy.
ive seen a lot of those homebrew turbo kits on RS's and to be honest i think the money would be better spent towards an STi/WRX swap. they rarely net that much power, they have serious limits, and arent nearly as reliable as a factory turbo'd car (comparing reliability to a wrx motor is rough, cuz the 2.0's arent that reliable)
A homebrew turbokit at 4-5 psi will smoke a stock wrx. It's just a harder setup to make work. And there's not really an upgrade path without rebuilding the engine and turbo setup. A wrx swap will provide you with lots of paths and lots of parts on the market that will bolt on. Easier to maintain.
how much would a swap cost bc i can send this turbo back and that $3500 but im sure it will cost more than that right?
I think someone was selling a 06 wrx engine and wiring for $2800. Buy the dash too for ~$200-300. Then everything becomes plug and play. Just will take hours of work. But it can be done for pretty cheap if you research.
Actually there's Camshaft2 (or however you spell it) who is selling a WHOLE wrecked bugeye wagon. You can literally swap EVERYTHING over. I think that was going for $2800 or so.
lol yes any motor from any subaru will just about fit in any subaru with a little finagling. you can put the entire engine, tranny, dash, suspension, seats, carpet, etc into your car from any impreza 93-07, and any engine and tranny from just about any subaru period granted you will need the lower crossmember and all the wiring, but seriously it will work. EDIT: here is a thread telling you how to do it. this would apply for any WRX/STi from 03-07..... http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1486051
are u serious well if this is true im gonns do a swap from the 04 sti it has the 2.5 turbo'd instead of the 2.0
hahaha, yeah..... 04+ (every) sti is 2.5l turbo..... you really walked into this subaru thing BLIND didnt you? check out nasioc, there are weeks upon weeks of informational threads over there. PLEASE research your car man. in the meantime, we are willing to answer questions
umm i posted a link to it in the post you quoted, its another website........... :eek3::eek3::eek3::eek3::eek3:
STI swaps sell for a lot more than wrx swaps. With the extra money you save, you can upgrade a few parts here and there for cheap and be at over 300whp. Then have money left over. STI's usually go for 6-7k atleast. A whole wrx wagon will cost you $2800.
the motor is toast in that car and the frame is twisted on the drivers side if you look closely. i wouldnt buy it for a swap.....
Not to mention when you start thinking about drivetrain! I am not sure if the RS drivetrain will handle a WRX motor, but I know that an STi motor will eat up an RS transmission and differentials. The WRX 2.0L was standard with the 5 speed which are prone to breaking under higher torque applications (like 300 lb/ft) but are fairly affordable. The STi 2.5L is standard with the 6 speed which is more or less bullet-proof, but I doubt you would be able to get even the transmission itself for less than $3k. Then you have to upgrade axles, differentials, drive shafts, ect... I will join everyone else in saying do a swap, don't do a bolt-on. You want to use a motor that has been designed for a turbo application (lower-compression, stronger internals, and better cooling systems, ect). Just about all the aftermarket is designed for the WRX or STi motor, so it will be easier to get parts and off the shelf maps to tune the car going that route. The most cost-effective method is the WRX 2.0L with a upgraded turbo (VF-39 or similar). But all of your decisions should be based on your ultimate power goals and your bottom line budget. Good luck!
It seems that the RS drivetrains hold up better than the wrx ones. The higher final drive puts lets strain on the overall system. MaxQ has like 400+whp and he daily drives his. Though he just may be a freak.
