The Tire Rack One Lap of America is the toughest 8 days of racing featuring the fastest street-legal cars on America's most challenging racetracks! Seasoned One Lap of America contender Catesby Jones who finished 3rd place overall last year decided to up the ante this year. Catesby went out and bought a beautiful white 2010 Nissan GT-R. We put our heads together and come up with a game plan for the project. The plan was to drop of his car brand new car at Forged Performance and pick it up a week later on the way to One Lap of America ready to compete! We didn't have a lot of time for this build so we knew we had to act fast. We ordered all the parts and immediately started going to work.

This was a really last minute project, and glad it turned out well. We got the call from Catesby out of the blue, and at first I thought he was joking. He was like, yeah..I am thinking of buying at GT-R for OLOA. Think you all could build up a car soup to nuts in about 7-10 days including a session or two of track testing? With our workload as it is, I was a little reluctant to take on the project but with the guys willing to put in the long days and nights, we say YES.

Fortunately, we've done this many times before, and we had a well tested track tested recipe of parts and tuning strategies to insure a fast AND reliable setup that would bode well for OLAO.

Catesby Jones, a seasoned and accomplished professional racecar driver, is driving the wheels of the GT-R, but it still outgunned by the Topspeed GT2. Tied for first after 3 days is a terrific accomplishment, and we are hoping for more consistent finishes as the event carries on.

What a way to break in a new car! LOL if he tries to sell it with 3K gentle break in miles!!!

BTW, way to go with the quick build. Will be following this event for sure.

Other than the top 3 is not really a great year this year. Someone could have easily gotten into the top 5 with a pretty mild Subaru

The Z06 driven by Corcoran is fast but they have had problems in the past and a well driven 450hp STI can hang with them.

You can't really put a price on onelap. People do it because they enjoy the insanity of it. I might drive next year but it will be or fun...not for an roi.

We had the opportunity to support a great driver and help him with his goal. And by all means we want him to win!

Tied for first in points....this is going to be a nail biter. It's really a race between the top 2....nobody else is in striking distance. :)

  34. b reel

No, and here we go with yet another misleading comment. The GTR is 15 points behind, for those of you who haven't read the rules, if a tie in FOA then it goes to class points, if a tie there it goes to lowest combined time. But you are right in that it will be a close finish.

  35. sharif@forged

    sharif@forged Member

I said tied in points. If you goto the current standing, both cars have the same number of current points. I understand how a tie works but the race isn't over yet. :eek:hnoes:

  36. The race isn't over yet..the GT-R is getting faster (someone turned up the power ;) ) , its a hard car to beat for sure, a true bolt-on racecar. Nissan did a good job with it.

We were only able to edge them out by a little over 1 second the first session at Gateway. Very small track, tight turns....the GT-R was loving life.

That's the beauty of OLOA. If nobody breaks or goes-off, it's always a tight race until the end due to the varity of tracks, the scoring methods, and categories of competition. And of course weather can be the great equalizer....our team is praying for rain but doesn't look like it's going to be a factor.

Quoted on Nagtroc. I thought I would share what Catesby has said as of today.

Just leaving Gateway. Clear and sunny day on our way to Mid-Ohio, 469miles to go.

The car ran very well, temp around 20-30degrees hotter than the morning. Picked up a a few seconds over the morning time. Unofficial time has us exactly 1sec off the GT2 for the whole session. I would have liked to just edge out Leh but... there are 3 more track to tackle and the dry skidpad...

Another note the GT2 broke the controller for the rear swaybar, so they will have a very late night getting parts and fixing it.

We will see how the rest of the week goes. Best of luck Catesby!

The winning car of last year was tuned by Sharif with an Cobb AP. This year Will is using Halltech and he tuned it himself.

Rankins and Taylor... They did all the work on it, including rebuilding the engine.
