Today we are installing an HKS GT800 Turbo Kit on a customer's R35 GT-R. This turbo upgrade with supporting mods will turn the GT-R into a 9 second street monster while still retaining AC, power steering, navigation and all the luxuries that are expected from an R35. We are expecting to see 700+whp once the kit is installed and tuning is completed Unboxing and prepping for install....
pure sex I know you guys work up special quotes per customer as needed, but can you give any estimates as to the cost of this kit and the cost of the installation? I've always been curious w/ these cars since you ahve to drop the motor to do anything w/ them
The kit retails for $12,995 not including all of the other supporting modifications that are required. The installation is quite lengthy as you pointed out the motor has to be dropped. Out of respect for the owners privacy I am going to keep the total cost of the project disclosed.
is this the GT-R that belongs to the spanish guy i chatted with when i was there a couple months ago? he told me all he was going to upgrade was the brakes and then leave it at that lol
Yeah, quite a few kidneys. It would be in the same realm of the labor it takes to build the motor on a Subaru. easily No, that guy lives in Alabama. This car is from Florida and they owner is definitely not Spanish. The owner you are referencing is still on a very mild setup.
Oh, and HKS is not having any sort of closeout sale or at least there is no plans to do this as of now. HKS Japan is still fully functional so they are not looking to liquidate their inventory in the US. Common items such as turbos, exhausts, and most electronics will likely sellout from normal stock before their transition is completed around August.
We currently have 2 GTR's here for this HKS GT800 and 3 GTR's here for the AMS Alpha 10 (1000whp kit). It really depends on the overall goals for the customer, but we are doing a few of each kit. At the end of the day the customer makes the final decision. We originally offered the Alpha 10 to this customer, but it was a bit more than he wanted to spend at this time.
With a lift and a engine/trans jack I bet you I could.....just not anywhere near as quick or cleanly! So what's missing in the HKS kits? I know the Alpha 9 kit is like $24,000 but it's complete with EVERYTHING.
well think about the cost. 90+k for the car. that competes with a porsche turbo, which costs what? 150, 160k or more depending on what you add, so the gtr with decent upgrade, (lets say 30k for all the goodies you might want) is still a bargain for folks that buy high performance cars in that price range. and what appears to be wastegate exhaust return is cool, does anyone make a kit for STIs/WRXS that has something like that?
