In auto mode, it did they several times taking a turn and giving it a little gas in the rain. Tires have 75-80% tread left. It has been aligned more than three times by two different shops. Tire pressure is within factory spec. It's been doing this for the past couple of years now. I wasn't sure if this was normal for a WRX or an STi. Could it be a bushing, dccd or diff issue? No error comes up on the dash. I have a tractrix cable, could I check for possible codes related to the diffs?
Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (Linux; U; Android 2.2.1; en-us; ADR6400L 4G Build/FRG83D) AppleWebKit/533.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile Safari/533.1) I find it cheaper and more fun to just plot a different course home to utilize that characteristic to its full advantage
That was always a giggity factor for me... It won't do it unless you "make" it... And you have more control than in a rear wheel. I loved it.
Ok, thought one of the diffs was going out on me...however, I should change out the fluids on it...155k on the odo.
Hmm, might have to play with that. What ratio is that for the torque bias(not sure if that's what they call it)?
I have the Quaife knock-off OBX front diff and a Sure-Trac rear R160 diff. When they decide to lock up in the rain it can be quite entertaining but that's only if looking for trouble. I wouldn't recommend doing this as the stock center diff tends to take a shit real quick.
Ah the memories I had with the spec c 6 speed in the rain. What suspension do you have? That could cause some oversteer too
BC entry level coilovers. Have it set to 7 clicks on hardness in the rear and 10 in the front. A little bouncy at the softest setting so I'm playing a bit with the settings. Probably gonna have it aligned at either AllPro or Grand Turismo East.
I'm going to play with it for the next couple of weeks and let things setting a bit. Once I get the rebound I want, I'll take it in somewhere to get aligned.
The spring rates on those coilovers are a little stiff. They will never be great in the rain. The guys at Allpro are great but if its an alignment you want the only place to go is Gran Turismo East Compression and Rebound are not independently adjustable on the BC Coilovers.
I was concerned with the high spring rates. I'm looking into some other ones for daily driving. Probably will use these for a track day.
Ok, so after playing around with suspension setup, alignment, changing out rotors, axles, rebuilding the brembos, resetting the computer/electronics(disconnecting power cables for a weekend), trying to find an error code for the dccd, adjusting different settings for the dccd, changed all abs sensors, changed out the abs module behind the passenger headlight, different tires, putting a bit more weight in the trunk ....nothing seems to make my car handle any better than before I got in an accident. Here's what I think is the problem. Lateral G sensors(not sure where the locations are), DCCD module, or worst case, front, center, rear diffs. Anyone wanna take a stab at it? I'm sure the cheapest is to change out the Lateral G sensors and DCCD module but how do I find out if one of these is faulty. Take it to the dealership? I did a while back after my car was in an accident. They didn't find any codes.
STi's with stiff coil-overs in the rain (with the DCCD in Auto) often have issues with MAJOR push on off-throttle corner entry followed by SNAP oversteer as soon as you go to the throttle. Running the DCCD to 2 clicks back from full-lock will make the car awesome in the rain. Sport Compact Car magazine had an article about it. I did a write up about it back in 2005. I don't think there is a "solution" other than running some DCCD lock in the rain. I don't think there is anything broken on the car. I'm not sure why they're fine in DCCD-Auto with stock suspension and get REALLY bad with stiff suspension. Siegel
Ok Scott. Will try to install stock suspension back in. Re-alignment and out for another test drive. I'm on my third set of brand new tires. Thanks for the advice. Maybe it's time to get an EVO...lol!
I tried that and it still kicks out in the rear. Also, right before I enter a corner at high speeds, I'll brake and the driver side abs kicks in. No matter which way I turn. The passenger side abs doesn't kick in at all unless the brake pedal is push almost 2x harder. It seems like the handling has gotten worst since the accident. That was with the stick suspension. Since then I started upgrading springs, bushings, to coilovers, all the other accessories I mentioned on my other post. Nothing seemed to fix the handling problems. It would seem I never had these problems till the accident.
