Forged Performance: New Personal Best for the Forged Performance GT3

Discussion in 'Meetups & Events' started by Chadbee@Forged, Sep 21, 2011.

  1. This past Monday a small part of the Forged Performance Team spent our day at Road Atlanta for the CHIN Motorsports Track Day. There was plenty of track available to all drivers and many personal best lap times were set through out the day. One of those drivers was Forged Performance's own Sharif Abdelbaset in the track prepared Porsche 996 GT3 with an astonishing 1:31.8 laptime! This an unheard of laptime in the "old school" 996 GT3 street car chassis. Even in factory 996 Cup Car, this is an exceptionally fast time. To put this into perspective this is almost 4 seconds faster than the NASA GTS-4 track record! Here is a quick run down of this stock powered but track day modified GT3:

    • Stock Body
    • Aeromotions Rear Wing
    • Forged Performance Custom Exhaust
    • Drop in Air Filter
    • Forged Performance Race Spec 6 Point SCCA/NASA Certified Cage
    • JRZ RS Pro Coilovers
    • Full monoball suspension components
    • Pagid Yellow Racing Brake Pads/Brembo Rotors
    • Hoosier Slicks on JB Racing 3 piece 18 inch motorsport wheels
    • Racetech Seats

Way to keep it real. Great going guys!

It's amazing what just suspension and aero work with a good driver will do. It's not always just about power!

Thanks! Sharif is very happy with this lap time, and had a blast running it (as always)!

We'll be sure to update when he inevitably beats this time as well. ;)

The camera is on a fixed mount on Sharif's helmet. While this does allow for excessive camera movement, it goes to show how much is actually going on in the vehicle while on track. As opposed to a camera mounted on the vehicle itself which makes for a much downplayed view of how much movement is actually going on in there. This video seems as if you were sitting in there yourself. :bigthumb:

For reference, here is a video of our GT3 with the camera mounted to the vehicle itself - CLICK HERE
