SOme of you guys got the wrx to mod some just like to toy with it. For those who got it new. How long (milleage/time) before your first mod ? and what went in the mod ?
i didnt really plan to hold back on the mods... the way i broke the car in was use a pseudo redline... 5k rpm until 1000 miles and 6k rpm till 3000 miles... i wouldnt hold back on the mods really... probably wont up the boost until i hit 3000
Best mod is the driver. Try attending one of the Scott Siegels Racing Clinics. Start out by working on your own driving technique. Take advantage of the car stock, and then upgrade it where you have dislikes. Learn the car, enjoy it as it is and then move from there. If its power you seek, go that route. If handling, etc. There's always a blend. Figure out what modding path you wish to take and go with that. There's no need to have a 500hp street car when all you do is drive down the street to work everyday. Make sense? That's really my 2 cents, start with the driver and work from there.
swaybars, tires, brake pads... and depending on budget, springs or coilovers... thats pretty much what i have and i really like it
I myself want a "perfect balance" speed+control it's gonna take a little time & $$ though but I will accomplish it!
I think I had my cd player in less than a week after I had the car. Gauges went in less than a month later. The power mods were already on the car, previous owner had them installed right around 15K miles I believe.
Day 1 for me. First thing I did when I got home after signing all the paperwork and driving off the lot in my new car was run home and switch out the wheels. 2 days later back to the dealership to install the spoiler. At the end of the first week I called and ordered my Exhaust.
I wish I could go back on some of my mod purchases, because it puts me in Autox classes that I wouldn't want to be in without having a lot more done to it. If its brand new, stick with non-engine mods. Tires, suspension, and brakes are often overlooked.
The AEM is in the car, and I working on tuning it for driveability right now. I think I'm going to leave the stock twins on for right now, that way I can compete in the stock twin class in Texas. I already have alot of other parts sitting. It was going to be my daily driver. Soon its all going down. Matt
had the car 2 days put a full stereo system in, 3 weeks later i put turbo back exhaust and wheels. Within 3 months i had about 3k invested in mods.
Well I have enough "car projects" going on atm, and I really wanted something that was fun to drive that I did not have to mod, so the STi will be stock for awhile.
