VF34 would easily get you there if you're talking crank hp... if you want wheel hp, probably an 18 or even 20G.. not sure about those though!
18G would be close, 20G would be a defininte; however, you're going to have crazy lag w/o nitrous on a 2L.
lemme rephrase, we may as well only refer to whp since no-one locally really has the means to record a true crank horsepower. we may as well also only refer to WHP since thats the power thats actually making it to the ground
If you want around 350whp you need the 2.5L shortblock unless you have a 2.0LJDM engine. The tranny will have to be rebuilt to handle that much power. As far as turbos, I would go with a 20g or even a SZ49.

i love the response of my super 16g... makes peak torque under 3700 and pulls all the way through... numbers have varied on different dynos (topspeed and sog) but the max i got was ~277whp and ~277 wtq at 21 psi peak boost (with a taper at higher rpm) at sog... feels great with the top mount... theres a guy on nasioc who made 307whp on his super 16g with a FMIC at only 18psi i believe... trying to get his plot to find out how laggy it is with a FMIC my other option was a vf34 but i decided to go with the uniqueness of a super 16g... people have been trying to compare both turbos... theoretically the super 16g should make more power than the vf22 and at the same time out spool a vf 39...
so milo ...u say 16g ....ok than...what do u think ill pull hp wise with 16g,turbo back ,up pipe, pully, front mnt?oh and turbo port and polish?..
Thats not true at all, just because everyone on the internet tells you that you cant make 350hp on a stock 2.0 doesnt mean you cant. If you get a GT30r you can make 350hp on pump and 400hp on race gas. I will be the first to admit that the stock 2.0 is not going to live very long at 400hp. But my motor has been fine at 350hp. If you have more questions about how to do it on the stock bottom end just let me know. If you buy an AEM to run the car I will even give you my map.
cool..thanks...yeah send me the info on what to do and ill check it out...im done building my bmw so im ready to finish the wrx.
I'd think that a GT30R with a lowish A/R on a 2.5L engine would make 350+whp and have a nice broad powerband. Matt, how laggy is your GT30R on the 2.0?
I see full boost by 4500 rpms, I will see if I can find one of my dyno charts to post, I have been doing a little road tuning lately and it seems to be making more power. I have a gt30r with a precision .48 backside, which flows more like a .68 from garrett
How long do you estimate that a 2.0L motor will hold this much power as a daily driver? IMHO If you want that much power why not get a short block that can reliably hold that power. The larger displacement helps to spool the larger turbos. I would like to know more info about your setup becasue I wanted to convert to a 2.5L in August.
I suspect that a properly tuned 2.0 would last a long time at 350hp, its not the hp that kills motors(or in the case of a stock 2.0 rods) its torque, I can get the motor to make less torque, you just detune it a little. Here is my current setup Stock 2.0 GT30r with a .48 backside Custom Turbo Kit by Batlground Engineering Borla Hush exhaust Modified injectors 255lph fuel pump TGV deletes, which make almost no diffrence(dynoed back to back) Perrin Front Mount Intercooler Tial 38mm wastegate Tranny PPG straight cut 1st-4th stock 5th ATS twin carbon clutch Thats pretty much all the important stuff car makes 344hp at 18lbs of boost on pump gas
http://www.tunerzine.com/articles/2005/featuredcar/issue13/wrx/article.html Is this your car? Did Andrew install the gearset? How much tq is your car running now?
Yeah, thats it. No, I did buy the gearset from andrew. But I rebuilt the box myself. Ill post up the dyno chart as soon as I find it. I cant remember the exact number off the top of my head. Matt
with deadbolt's super 16g u should make over 300whp... Magman on nasioc put down 307whp @ 6300 rpm and 266wtq @ 5300 rpm at just 16.5 psi, 91 octane at 4400 feet!!!... thats pretty impressive to me... im making less cuz of my TMIC... so im now considering a front mount too
if you are on a tight budget, then I would go with an 18g, I had one on my car and it was awesome. It trapped at 118 on a slipping clutch, it had great midrange power and your only giving up 150-200rpms of spool time vs the 16g. If money is not as big an issure then I would go with a rotated setup but use a Precision 2871 instead of the 30r. You will get quicker spool up and you should still make very close to 350 on pump gas. The rotated turbos are better because there are no space constraints, you dont have to squish the compressor and exhaust housings to get them to fit. Nobody has done the 2871 on a subaru that I know of yet, that would be the hotness. If you want help let me know. Matt
