i have a creaking noise that i hear when the tire makes its rotation - i took the wheel offand looked and found that my cv joint had a little fresh grease outside the rubber boot. would that cause the noise? it started out about 2 months ago as a very faint squeek every once in a while but has progressively gotten worse. is this a common wear item/problem? i have 100k miles on my car and any input would be helpful. i called subaru and they said it was either a) hub... or... b) cv joint. thanks!
sounds like you need a new cv boot, part isnt expensive but i think its like 2 hours of labor from SoG.
depending how long it has been torn, you may be able to replace just the boot. i, however, have never been that lucky.
Bad boot or axle, I know a great place to have them fixed here on hwy 5, they did my STi axle 20k ago when there were none to be found, and price was reasonable.
thats cool cuz royal subaru told me it would bearound $275 for the cv joint, but $500-600 for the hub...
I seem to have the same squealing problem in my front wheels. However the wheels only squeal when I break, I think. I was thinking that I need to replace the pads but they seem ok. What the heck is the cv boot ? :squint:
