There was a problem getting my Pirelli's at Kauffman and the mgr gave me a sweet deal on some 225/45/17's. Just wondering if anyone is riding on them now. I know they score slightly lower on the tirerack tests than the Pzero's Nero M+S but want to know in real world driving how they react. Thx
I dont remember if it was Slizan99 or Neil at SOG but one of them was saying that they really liked the way the ASXs handled on their Forester.

I was zeroed on the on the Falken Ziex 512's for an all season tire based on the reviews on NASIOC. The price v. performance of the 512's seemed to meet my needs. Long story short, Discount tire made a mistake and I ended up with ASX's for the same price as the 512's. Result? I am a very happy guy. These are the perfect mix of all season/perfromance /comfort for me. They grip well in comparison to the re070's and the 712's I have. This is not to say they grip anywhere near as well as those tires, just that the performance drop off isn't so severe that I find myself unhappy with the ASX's. In the rain, these tires are flawless. Combining the AWD with true all season tires makes a huge difference. I was hoping to try them in the snow this year, but apparently global warming is real...I would recommend these as an excellent value all season, if you are looking for a dedicated high performance tire, these are not really appropriate. The side walls do have more flex than I like, but this also makes them more comfortable over longer trips. Since I now have three sets of wheels and tires, these will be my winter wheels, and with the long tread life, I am hoping for at least three winters out of them....
Great writeup Scott, curious to hear goose's opinion as well. For me, its tough to trade up the stiff sidewalls of the re070's as its part of what gives the STi the feel it has. However, I may be buying some p zero nero M&S for a considerably great deal. More to come on that I suppose.
ok everyone, the ASX's are a great buy for what you get, the only dif I can tell between the ASX and the pzero's is the ride isn't quite as nice. Bumps are magnified and not as forgiving. Other than the bumps I can't really tell a difference. The sidewalls may not be as stiff either, come to think of it. The best part about the ASX's is the waranty. 30k compared to 15- 18k and no waranty with the pzero's. Heck, tirerack has them for $85 per tire right now! that's under $400 shipped. Kauffman tire worked with me and I got a really good deal; so I'm pleased with my purchase. As far as traction in wet and dry they are excellent as I put them to the test over the weekend and they handled everything I could throw at them. There is a great comparison on tirerack with graphs and everything that shows the ASX vs Pzero m+s vs Continental vs Goodyear and they were just a fraction behind the pzero's in every category.
BEWARE: if you run the Pzero's m+s you will be buying tires quite frequently unless you don't drive very far per year. They are excellent tires but extremely soft and treadwear is fast.
