So like the title says, i had a few incidents where my exhaust made a ping/buzzing noise for a few seconds when i was driving along at a brisk pace. I thought nothing of it till today when i noticed my car smelled like gas, despite being on for close to 30 minutes. I only have one cat (in the cobb downpipe) so i understand that it might smell a bit before it warms up but this has me a little worried. My A/F is fine now so the car should not be dousing the cat in unburned fuel.

Is there a way to check to see if the catalytic converter has died by just looking at it or do i actually have to poke it with a wire to see if it comes loose easily?

If you can still read your rear O2 sensor (i.e. don't have a mechanical fix) it might be worth seeing what it says.

good call on the rear o2, i'll see what delta dash says. Any idea what resonable values might be for a single cat?

I also have high flow catted DP. At full throttle I get a winning noise and the same smell some times. Mine is simply because of an UP leak. I just to busy to fix it right now.

My smell is at idle, usually when i come to a stop. I'm going to check tomorrow with delta dash when i don't have so much class stuff to run to.

Its possible that you simply run a tad rich during idle, even more so after you've been driving. As a catless, 3" out owner w/o EM, my car is quite gassy at idle.

well with my car running like crap even after trying all 3 gas stations near school here in ohio, i went about a half hour south and got gas near a friends place. My smell and my bad performance have resolved themselves. I figured it could not be gas related since i tried 3 brands (2 local and shell). Guess the gas here at school is poor at best. Wierd huh. It was never a problem in atlanta because i can always use the shell near me.
