Since so many more of us are now tracking and will be auto-x, has there been any consideration for Schroths Quick Release Harness? It bolts to the factory seatbelt locations, utilizes the factory pretensioners and thus is 100% DOT. I have been wanting one of these so, Ive been discussing this with Sakari, who has in turn been talking to Schroth and I now think there is a potential for a great GB here. Would anyone be interested?
ooohhhh... I could scare my co-workers even MORE now, they're already terrified of my car! Might be interested depending on price.
Great harness! works great for the track and autoX, but I still wouldn't use it on the street, even though it is DOT legal. -- Brian
Alot of interests! that's good I'm sure the prices will be cheaper than any other places and might even go alot lower depending on how many people we get. We're not setting up a group buy to make money but they require a initial buy in limit which is why we're forced to set up a group buy. Let me and Alex know if you are really interested. Thanks
Keep in mind that you will need a passanger one as well if you plan on doing a track day. You have to have the same as the driver or better restraints for the instructor.
I thought HMS was the only authorized Schroth dealer for the US? Beware US customs lost my passenger side one for two months... the harnesses are still hard to come by. But they are awesome .
I just don't feel comfortable using them every day. They are fun for a bit, but I kind of like relaxing. The harness also makes me feel more hardcore, so I want to drive more aggressively, as it holds you in the seat so well. -- Brian
There are two issues with 4 point harnesses that some might want to consider: 1) If your using it for track days, the lack of a submarine belt can be very dangerous. 2) If you roll your car, with no roll bar, the harness will keep you upright in your seat, possibly squishing your melon.... Now, I realize that both of these scenarios are unlikely, especially during an auto-x. Just wanted to mention them so people were aware. I would consider getting in on this group buy as I only Auto-x right now....
1) If the lower belt is installed at the correct angle and worn properly you won't submarine. 2) As far as rolling the car check out the thread about subaru b pillars. It'd be cool if we could get them to make a black and blue set of harnesses to match the STi's seats.
Like I said, just mentioning the two issues for those who may not know. Its good to know that the belts take into account submarining. I will probably get these for autocross use at some point...
I got mine for $225 a side (ie driver or passenger) without pads. I believe pads are around $30 for two. The blue really doesn't match the STi blue but still looks good. Unfortunately my site is down so I can't post my pics of the harness with blue pads.
Ive been discussing this GB on and off with Mike (Sakari) and I do believe he finally got the correct paperwork through with HRM to deal through them. I'll call him up in a few and see if I can kick this off.
It's finally here!!! Sorry it took so long but it's here! I think prices are reasonable. Please check the group buy section in few hours. I'm working out pricing, package deals and all that good stuff right now! -Automerged Post- http://www.wrxatlanta.com/forums/showthread.php?p=86610#post86610
