Hello everyone, I just joined this site but have been a nasioc member for awhile. I will be moving to gainesville (from Ft. Lauderdale) in a month or two and have been having trouble finding houses for rent in the area. I could use a few tips on where and where not to look.

I am really looking forward to some track days at road atlanta and am hoping to get into the auto-x scene as soon as I move up there. I'm actually thinking about buying a used miata for an auto-x/HPDE car. And of course, finding some low traffic twisty mountain roads is also on my to do list!

For those of you in Gainesville, be on the lookout for a white bugeye on rota attacks in the near future!

Sup man, welcome to the site.

I lived in Gainesville for about 11 years so I can try to help. It all depends on what you want though. You can pay just as much for a really nice place there as you can most other places, or you can get something cheap as shit.

I'd actually rather live in Oakwood now though. Hall county is a big place though so look around.

Thanks everyone. I was not expecting over a page of welcomes! :eek3:

I will definately check out Oakwood, as I do not absolutely have to live in Gainesville, I just dont want to drive more than 25 minutes to work everyday. I'm guessing its going to be tough to find houses for rent, so I may contact a real estate agent when I go up. If I can't find anything I'll probably just get a short lease on an apt until I can find a house to buy.

Any suggestions on nearby areas to the north or east of Gainesville? I will also have to commute to cleveland once in awhile, so something slightly north would be ideal (though I'd much rather drive a little longer on occasion if it means living somewhere nicer).

I see you found it :)

oakwood= closer to Road Atlanta, and about the cheapest gas around.

North Hall can be a nice place to live, but it's starting to get a bit more pricey.

Plenty of roads, particuarly if you head north some :)

Gainesville has become just as congested as any Atl suburb. If you can handle the 25 mile or so commute you may want to look up here where I live in Cornelia/Demorest area. A little country up her but you'll get a bit more bang for your buck and close to the mountains. I commute to Gainesville daily, takes<30 minutes.

I was going to add this since no one chimed in about it, be sure to check out the WRXatlanta.com Challenege for our avid auto-x members, be sure to check out this thread for more information -- http://www.wrxatlanta.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5530

We hopefully will have a track even planned in the near future, and there are an assortment of autox events coming up as well.

I have no idea where that is, so I can't say but I imagine it would be decent. Do you know what it's near?

turns out the address was wrong...its actually off of Popular Rd.(332) between Oakwood and Talmo.

I just looked at what it would cost to rent a truck for the move...insane! most places are over $1000 for the small ones, not incluiding a flatbed for the car.
