i'm from memphis and was up at the install day july 8th and got to meet some of you. I have fried my stock clutch and want to put a new one in (stock or aftermarket not sure) and a lightweight flywheel. i was wondering if someone on here would be willing to help me install those. i would drive to atlanta or wherever and i would really appreciate the help, i really want to learn how to do this stuff on my own car. and a question for everyone else if i go with an aftermarket clutch would it be harsher on the tranny? if so should i get another oem clutch.. and what weight for a flywheel is a good weight? i have heard 9-12lbs. for the 02 wrx... thnx for the input :sx:

probably shouldn't go any lighter than 12lbs on the flywheel. as far as an aftermarket clutch... how much torque are you putting down?

yeah, i'm not sure it really helps much on our cars anyway. mine was on my car when i bought it so i don't really know the difference, as far as the feel and drivablity between the stock and the lightweight.

i can tell you its not recomended to do a light weight fly wheel when you have already got a lightweight crank pulley. its been a while but ill see if i can dig up the artical.

Lightweight crank pully and lightweight flywheel will in no doubt throw a misfire code on the ECU. Do not do it. I would ditch the crank pulley and do the flywheel. I have the Fidanza flywheel and it revs much faster and downshifting is a breeze. However it comes at the cost of much harder stop and go driving. I sound like I am getting ready to launch when I am rolling from a dead stop because I have to rev the car higher to get the momentum. If I could do it again I would get a heavier flywheel like the ACT Streetlight. It's 13 lbs vs my 9.5 lbs.

Clutch install is a breeze but labor intensive not to mention the pain of getting the tranny back on. If you had a lift it's not bad at all otherwise benching that heavy tranny up is hard. Once you get it on the studs at the bottom of the block you are home free though.

I also noticed you have a bugeye. DO NOT get the ACT pressure plate as EVERYONE I know very soon broke their tranny. Unless you are pushing over 315 tq to the wheels the stocker will work just fine with you.

well i just put the lightweight crank pulley in this past install day and i am very happy with it. i will prob put the stock clutch kit in so as not to tear up the weak ass gear box we call a tranny. would you be willing to help me install it?

Yeah i've got a 14lb flywheel and lightweight crank/ac/ps pulley set and it works just fine. Just don't go too light on the flywheel otherwise it'll start misfiring and be a PAIN to drive in traffic.
