wasn't sure where to put this.

Just got a speeding ticket near gainesville. I am used to south florida ticket lawyers where I pay $70 and the ticket magically dissapears. So far I have not found anything like that here. Called one lawyer who said he'd defend it for $500. :eek3:

Can anyone point me in the right direction in order to not have this ticket on my record without spending too much money. I have a court date, but am not exactly sure what happens from there. Speed addicts, help me out!

Remember that it's not just the ticket $ that matters. You might end up with a $80 ticket but $500 in insurance increases over a couple of years.

true moose, but it all depends on how fast he was going more than anything.

72 in a 55. For that I'm sure I will get some kind of insurance increase. I read somewhere on the internet that if you go to court, often they offer to reduce the speed by 3-5 mph if you plead guilty. Only tickets for 15mph and above over the limit are reported to dmv, I read in the same place. Anyone else heard of this?

Yes 15 over = points. But can't you go to like a driving school or something to get points taken off?

Best bet....show up to court. talk to the da/solicitor/ada...whoever is going to prosecute your case. Tell him that you are willing to settle for 14 over and pay the fine for the full amount. If you want more advice from this email me. I did this for a living up until recently.

Feel free to pm/email me. I check my email daily, sometimes a couple times a day and don't mind talking to people about stuff. While I am in no way giving legal advise that can or should replace a lawyer, I know the laws pretty dang well and I can tell you if things were done according to the way they are generally supposed to go. I can in no way guarantee anyone that I will get them out of a ticket, but I can give friendly advice from years of experience dealing with traffic law.

Oh yeah, my knowledge of traffic law applies only to Georgia code...every state is different and I don't pretend to know other state's laws. I can tell you general court procedure from my experience but again not to be taken as legal advice, just some info that might help ya out.

wow, good to know. Unfortunatly I already gave the ticket to a lawyer. Maybe he'll go easy on me with the fees since someone I know used to work for him. I'll consult with you on the next one, though hopefully it won't be for awhile. At least with the lawyer I don't have to take off work, which saves many people lots of frustration.
