02 Bumper Removal

Anybody got instructions or pictures on how to remove the front bumper!

I've got my info from the i-club. Search there for "Bumper Removal" and username: conduit Those guys have some pics of the bumper removed - and one guy posted a scan of the one and only page in the subie service manual on how to remove it.

However the pics and the instructions are limited use. What helped me a lot was having the right tools - you need to remove a lot of what we called "clippy things" - the little press-fit plastic grommets that hold all the plastic bits together. Find yourself a combo nail-puller that looks like a flat-head screwdriver, but it's tip is forked and bent a little - that was really helpful. The entire bumper and gront grills are all heald on by clippy things.

Steps for removal are:

Disconect the battery terminal - to disengage the airbag sensors!!

Center grill - beware the clips at the ends of the grill - use a flash light and shine down in the gap between the grill and the side-grills

Side grills - the little things between the head lights.

Inside fender liner - I took it all the way out

Headlights - three bolts, you don't need to un-wire them, just get at the clippy thing under the headlight.

plastic "skid plate" thingy

Remove fog lights - three screws, and the wiring harness

Bumper has clippy thingys at the ends and underneath, pretty soon it will just come off.
