I am curious as to what setups everyone is running. Since my WRX has failed to hit my asking price, she will stay for now. I only drive 3 miles to work now, so the gas money saved has made me feel a little better. Any who...I want to try some track days in the near future and learn the skills. My pads are shot! Post your setup with the cars main purpose, and how you like it! Go!!!!
Big brakes are best, but obviously a little pricey. My suggestion is if you're just looking to upgrade your current setup then get pads, lines and fluid. Hawk hp's are great dd/perf pads. And any stainless steel braided lines are a good upgrade. I think its motul blue brake fluid everyone loves. A good minor upgrade, that are on my old WRX was the 06-07 4 pots. Then put some upgraded pads in those. They are available in red or black and cost like 600 for the fronts and 400 for the rears. Pretty good priced upgrade, but if I had to do it again I would have done the lines at the same time and fluid too.
Why am I excluded? Anyhow... 1996 SUBARU Legacy Outback Wagon, 4EAT Purpose: Daily driver, autox, road course. How I like it: A lot. Fine fine, the brakes: JDM 4 pots in the front stock rear (soon to be JDM 2 pots)
ATE Super Blue. And only because it was readily avail. at SOG....I would use the motul DOT 5.1 for street use/light track use (aka your average track day) or the RBF660 for serious track use (One Lap/Time Attack type stuff).
4pots are EXCELLENT because you can run 15" wheels....for those...odd...occasions...when...you...need them... Ya know, tight autox courses.
That was brand new from sog. Probly closer to 800 for the fronts with install. But I bet most of you guys could probly do the install yourselves.
I'm running HPS pads on stock lines and fluids right now. Next week I'm going to buy a set of HP+ pads, SS lines, ATE superblue, and OEM discs up front, H6 discs in the rear. I'll post up my impressions when I get around to installing it all. HPS were great for a street pad. I've never tracked the car and they worked great for my one autox I've ever done but they do fade a lot when they heat up.
I have STi front Brembos off of Lucy aka Doug's race kar. Doug drove my car and told me that he thinks they are better than the upgraded brakes Lucy has now. I have Goodridge SS lines, HP+ pads, and ATE Super Blue fluid. Rears are stock with some no name pads but you don't use the backs 'that' much.
