I just got done this weekend pulling my motor out of my STI after 124,000 miles. The motor was super strong with 149-150 PSI of compression on all cylinders. The car was making 380 AWHP but I wanted more and I didnt want to blow the stock motor. So I had a motor built. I should be putting the new one in once a few little nick nack parts come in that I ordered.

My new motor is made up of the following:

    New Track series block
    09 STI Crank
    Pauter Rods
    CP Pistons, Coated
Supertech Stainless and Inconel Valves and Springs, Complete Race Ported and Polished Heads by HeadGames
    ARP Everything with Head Studs
    Tigwerks Oil Pick Up
Tigwerks -AN Turbo Drain Return on Block
    Fuildampr Dampner
    New STI Oil Pump
    Killer B Windage Tray.
    New Water Pump
    New Water Neck
    New Cam Pulleys
    New Cosworth Timing Belt
    New STI Red Intake
    Top Feed TGV Deletes
    Kelford Cams 272/272
    Cosworth Gaskets
    Cosworth Timing Belt Guide
    Cometic Head Gaskets

The clutch is a ACT 6 Puck with ACT lightened Flywheel.

Congrats on the build looks pretty sweet.

A few things, I would reconsider those cams, they are a little large for that turbo. The second thing is the JDM 12mm oil pumps tend to fall off and lose pressure over 6000rpms. I would suggest the normal 11mm STI pump.

    Who built the engine?

    Matt

The JDM pump was actually changed out I just copied and pasted some stuff so my mistake there. About the turbo I'm actually using a GTX35R on this motor the aps was on the old motor. Another mistake by me. A friend of mine did the build he owns a machine shop in tenn. ICE motorsports.

Well I axed all the side feed crap for top feed and ID2000's and I axed all the stock location turbo crap for a GTX35r and a custom Tigwerks rotated kit with a custom Tigwerks FMIC and turbo inlet. I'm also getting headers from him and scrapping the gruppe-s headers I have now.

The Tigwerks stuff is awesome, Kelly does a really nice job. I'm considering having him build a kit for my car.

Go ahead and take that Grimspeed AOS back off. It doesn't flow enough air for a big turbo setup. In my experience they create extra crankcase pressure which prevents the turbo from draining and causes it to push oil out the seals.

You are going to need something more like the Crawford or Moroso.

I really dig your build by the way. Looking forward to seeing what kind of power it makes.

Very nice build. I could be wrong but I won't be surprised if you have issues with the MAF being inconsistant because it's too close to the inlet of the turbo. There should be at least 2 bends or 1 good bend between the turbo and the MAF.

Nice to see some DIYing a big build like this. Can't wait to see it finished

He's really just using it for startup/break-in. We're switching over to SD after that..

Looks great Ryan- idc what that idiot Reed says:pssh: lol

Thanks for the info on the Grimmspeed. The MAF is only there for start up and break-in. Car will be tuned on Speed density after that.

Maybe I missed it but what engine management and who's tuning?

  35. stirhino

    stirhino Member

Stock ECM. After talking to several tuners including Doug. All said nothing but stock was needed. I was going to purchased a AEM but was told it was not needed. h23bb2 will be doing the tuning. It may make a trip up to TopSpeed at some point.

So you will be using Open Source?

Digging this build. Tigwerks makes some great stuff from what I have read.

Steps left to complete before the first start up

    1. Connect (1) coolant tank hose (waiting on hose will be here Thursday)
    2. Connect (1) vacuum hose to EBCS (waiting on fitting and hose will be here Friday)
    3. Fill coolant system with coolant
    4. Hook up battery
    5. Get start up tune uploaded to ECM

In the next few weeks I will change out the Grimmspeed AOS for a Crawford as advised.

Well she is alive! She wasn't starting at first but after figuring out that the fuel feed and return lines were reversed thanks to this thread http://www.iwsti.com/forums/2-5-liter-litre-factory-motor/234218-04-sti-fuel-lines-what-what.html . That thread said the feed was on top well not on my car, its the opposite of what it says in the thread so I had it wrong. Once I had the lines switch all was good. I have a few things to button up before I can drive her to work and start putting some break in miles on her but so far so good.

Yes Tigwerks has been great to me. I have been very happy with everything he built for me! As with anything custom it takes time to build.

You can contact Tigwerks on his FB and also view some of his prior builds

Hear is a quick video of it just starting up. The 2k idle was recommend for the first 10 minutes by builder. More work still needs to be done of course. Unfortunately I have to do things in steps because I don't have money trees growing.
