So I have an 05 Sti that I have about $5-600 to throw into what I want to be suspension stuff. Which is all stock at the point, was thinking of the white line front/rear end links, and want to do some lowering springs to provide a much more aggressive appearance and I wouldn't mind a little increased performance either. *I was looking at the tein s-tech lowering springs...but I hear mixed things. Looking for advice and more springs that I may not have heard about but will still provide at least an inch or do drop. * Other options for what to do with my money is welcome discussion as well*
sway bars and the endlinks if you want performance, stay away from the s-techs. undersprung and too low for being undersprung. trust me...i have them look into the RCE's
Swift or RCE springs Tokico, Koni, Bilstein or KYB AGX struts Whiteline end-links stock sways, better bushings and a Whiteline ALK with stock wheels/tires make for a great handling ride without being harsh for a daily. If planning for autox or track days then go for sways
just my .02 i've heard that the epic engineering lowering springs are awesome. much better than the s-techs. if you go to rallysportdirect.com there are a few reviews and some pics on there. and i would def recommend going with some new upgraded struts at the same time.
So I've decided to agree yes springs/struts at the same time is a good idea lol, any idea on what would give me the "lowered stance" while still providing a handling upgrade. End links will be going on as well, white line front and rear and most likely the steering rack bushing kit as well. Undecided on doing front roll center adjustment kit or not just yet, as my ball joints appear to be fairly recently replaced....but I'd like to drop it an inch give or take a tad...
save the money on the endlinks and steering rack bushings. they wont do much on the sti unless you get sway bars as well. just get a set of coilovers. after the price of struts and springs you could have had a set of BC Racing coilovers with full adjust ability to give you the stance that you want
Well Its my daily driver so I dont know if I'd enjoy te harshness of full racing coilovers. That's my only reserve. And yeah just about an 1" is good. I'd like it lower, but most springs don't drop it more than an inch so...
I would say go for a ride in tommy's car to see what the BC's are like, but hes on full stiffness. Its true though: what you spend on springs/struts, you can spend a bit more and get some BC's.... I'm not sure your $5-600 budget allows for all of that though....
Get the street rated springs and switch to full soft. My GF has it on her 2005 STI and it's not bad at all.
To me sways are the best improvement you can make to a Subaru with that kind of budget. Totally transforms the car. Read THIS, there is a lot of good info in it. Scott and I have both spend a lot of time in Subarus on track and a good bit of the knowledge gained from that made its way into that thread. If you really want to improve the car, there are basic recipes that you can follow to get the best bang for the buck. Matt
