Still feels kind of slugish almost like the power band changed to a higher RPM is this normal for an sti when it breaks in? or could it be the cold weather? I thought that it was the vaccum line but it wasn't. just seems like i 'm not getting that off the line pull like I used to. Ideas any one Milo did you experience a change when yours broke in?
i think ur just gettin used to it... i doubt theres anything wrong with the car... all u have dont to it is a new filter right? i have experienced changes since i have added new parts to the car... i have a TBE, cold air intake and big top mount so its definitely making more power than stock... however on some days it feels slower than other days... our cars are VERY sensitive to changes in weather
Two thoughts, 1) you are getting used to it. It happens to everyone eventually. 2) Have you been doing alot of highway driving or driving at constant speeds. I remember someone talking about the ECU learning and adapting to driving habits. Maybe you have "taught" that you don't need so much low end? I am sure someone who knows far more than I do will chime in soon... p.s. Cold Weather, even with the higher humidity, should equal more power....right?
that what I thought I hope I'm just trippin, and yes I kinda do alot of highway driving so I hope thats it, just afraid that i may have screwed something up since I got on it a little the other night and im still below a 1000 miles, but hay it's an STI ! it should handle it right !
i have heard of this too... dunno how strong of an effect it has... another learning issue would be if one time u got bad gas, the ECU yanked the timing advance multiplier down and it simply isnt back up yet... what u can try to do is reset the ECU (disconnect the battery, get in the car, stomp the brake pedal for 5 seconds, reconnect the battery)... make sure the car is fully warmed up before resetting... after resetting, let it idle for 2-5 min (AC off)... then go for a quick spin... roll the gears from 0% throttle to 100% throttle... start doing that in first, then second, and go higher depending on speed limit, etc... hopefully that should bring the advance multiplier back up... i heard that left foot braking doesn't work too well with the new STis... hope that fixes it correct me if im wrong higher density of oxygen in air will lead to more power... higher temp reduces the density of air = less power... higher humidity = displaces oxygen in air = less power good thing is that colder air can hold less vapor = denser oxygen = more power
i avoid BP as much as possible... i have heard they mix stuff into their gas... then again u hear rumors about everybody... i usually only fill up at chevron and QT... sometimes texaco... but if a particular station looks shady, i avoid it
to increase load on ur engine, u can give it some gas and hold the speed constant with ur left foot on the brake... this would raise the advance multiplier in the bugeyes quite effectively
i dont think it works for the 06... i think i remember SS saying that the 05-06 ECU doesn't like left foot braking
ok I w i meant I will try ressetting the ECU. Thanks for your help Milo, by the way how does your STI run in 1st gear?

cool I have a GFB that recircs also but the spring rate doesn't seem as tight can this be an issue. I can push the piston in with my finger easier than the stock one.
'05+ does *NOT* like left-foot braking. Just get into at least 4th and hold it at 5-7 psi of boost anywhere between 3k and 5k and the A.M. should come up. What filter did you do? Did you let it dry some before you put it in? The K&N's tend to come very wet with oil and have been known to foul MAF sensors. BP tends to have more detergents. After MUCHO datalogging I have stopped suggesting BP. I know it's "BP-Amoco" but they *MIGHT* have different blends... Shell, Chevron, QT (as long as they are new and busy), Texaco, then Amoco, kind of in that order. The recent ECU's can learn "Long Term Fuel Trims" after cruising on the highway which will continue to apply at WOT... If that trim is large it can affect WOT performance... SS
i used a green filter and it wasn't very wet, I often use chevron gas just put BP in last. what do you mean by WOT?
wide open throttle... this thread might be useful http://www.wrxatlanta.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4929
