Hey guys, Newbie here. I own an 06 WRX. And am ready to begin some power mods. First thing I am looking to buy and install is a TBE http://www.daddysscp.com/dcart4/product.php?productid=43&cat=5&page=1 and then the MadDad whisper axleback. I am worried that other users have complained about boost creep especially for 04 sti's and higher and 06, 07 wrx's. Others have mentioned that once you install a TBE, you must perform engine management. Others have said that you should do a reflash (is this correct?) before you install a TBE. What are your experiences and is this something I need to be worried about. Also, any other wrxatlantan's out here with a MadDad? Please advise.
IMO you should plan on getting a tune especially if you go catless. When removing the cats from the system you will get an engine code unless you get EM or the bung "Cell Fix". I'm planning on just doing a cat back for now and maybe in the future tuning.
Just get an Accessport and TBE at the same time... or... get the Accessport first and save up for the TBE... Yes, you need both.. so, you might as well budget for it.
Accessport first if I had to choose, then the turbo back. While tuning, I have seen people come in with parts already installed, but no tune, and the end result was ugly. Dangerous lean in some spots, stupid rich in others.
The picture in the link that you posted is a divorced DP. While it PROBABLY won't creep on the stock TD04, if you put on of the STi turbos on it in the future you will have MUCH higher likelihood of creep. The '06 WRX's are the first of the "world motors." They are the first 2.5 liters with the new top-feed injectors, new air pump, no up-pipe cat, and much of the new engine management "issues." They don't tune like any of the earlier cars at lower rpm so getting a protune VERY soon after doing mods is a REALLY good idea Siegel
The divorced DP's induce more creep than bellmouth. The divorce plate interferes with the flow from the wastegate. I think many people don't realize that wastegate's don't open 90 degrees from closed, they open at most about 30 degrees. If they opened 90 it would be fine to have a divorce, but at 30 the exhaust flow is hitting right into the divorce. That reduces flow out of the wastegate while helping flow out of the turbine, which increases the likelihood of creep. Siegel
