this was on the news down here today. http://www.wesh.com/automotive/16200238/detail.html so with all that said what do you guys think?
I've been noticing the stickers a lot lately. Are there any stations that aren't using the new mixture (I know Shell is)?
my thoughts exactly mike. from what i read they use a blend of 87 or 89 and 10% ethanol "105 octane" to reach the 93 octane rating. it is still 93 octane but the Stoichiometric efficiency has gone down due to the 10% ethanol. not to mention how it solves the gas crud in your tank and clogs you fuel filter. makes me want to change mine today. i seems as though every gas station down here has it. shell too.
:hsugh: I just filled up a couple days ago in Woodstock and the pump said 'May contain up to 10% ethanol', hasn't this been going on for awhile during summers?
its just something for the media to feed on. SUBARU's dont have issues with ethanol...stock ones at least.
That doesnt matter. The article posted is referencing normal customers with normal (aka stock) cars. The bigger problem are Federal regulations that do stupid shit. Like deleting REAL fuel filters...that allows particles to get into the injectors and clog them. Thus creating a fueling issue that normal mechanics (read: Not REAL Technicians) would never find.
will it create potential problems with AP tuned cars? (i`m at stage 2 at 93 octane map).. i try to avoid the gas stations with ethanol mix for now cuz i have no clue how it would affect tuned cars.. i assume it couldnt be good
Pretty much all stations will be forced to use Eth. blended gas due to Fed. regulations. I would recommend a retune/check tune to be safe. It does affect performance and MPG, but for stock cars it really is not a bother.
yeah I have been using the same qt for awhile now and today I noticed a shiny new "may contain 10% ethenal" sticker on the pump...
At least QT has a garantee that if something happens to your car due to the fuel, they will pay for the repairs.
A stock car, possibly. A modified car? Too many variables to present to the jury, QT will get out of it.
ethonal is a bandaid that is just causing other problems. aka have you seen the price of milk lately...geez. i give this miracle fuel 5 years before its over with and the next big thing will be in. my money is we will finally get deisels in the US (the cool ones)
Actually according to my ex, they have had to pay out a couple of times on that warranty. All it took was the dealership showing what happened. So far it has mainly been on instances where too much water was in the gas tanks and such though. But I think there is some sort of exceptions built into the guarantee...I would go read it before you rely on it too much.
since i want to get a tune again soon.... i might as well get a tune with 10% 93octane. I havent' seen Ethenol at gas station's around my house.
Our last tune at Topspeed was on Exxon gas and that station had the may contain 10% ethanol sticker. Hopefully we are okay. I think most of the tunes done by Doug and Scott at Topspeed at least will be fine as both tuners leave some room for saftey/error/detonation resistance. Those with tunes on the ragged edge and are pushing it may want to get retuned however.
