I just changed my rear diff oil and i was not too happy but i guess its common. The rear diff oil changed for the first time 11k miles. It was grayish and not clear. No chunks but the magnetic plug was gummy. I assume its normal, if not please advise. Is there a front diff oil ? Can i change my tranny oil with just front ramps. Will it fully drain ? and can i fill it partially then fill the remaining when the car is level or is there other tricks ? anyone ? Bueller ? Bueller ?
I used AMsoil 75w90 [SVG 75W-90 gear lube] If you need the contact PM me The change is easy no jack reqd - just crawl but if never done it before the nut is very difficult to get out(very tight, with factory locktite). Its a taper thread. You will need a 1/2 drive and make sure you dont slip and round it off. I used a 1/2 drive rathet but i think there is an actual socket for it because when i inspect closely after the plug is removed i can see where the contact of the ratchet to the plug is and Im not too happy (loose). I know its goin to create a question but i did it anyways. I wrapped the drain plug with (only one turn) of teflon tape on the last 3-4 threads. I highly recommend remove the fill plug first otherwise if you drain it and cant get the fill plug out then you are toast. 3/4 qt is all you need but i - jacked up the car in the front to drain completely and pump a few pumps into the chamber to push any leftovers out. The pump can be bought at Wal mart for $7. otherwise you cant get the oil in there. Im have sore shoulders this AM from Pumping and in weird position to musle the drain plug out. I ended up with hammering the ratchet even i used BJ penetrant. still didnt budge so i used my car jeck on one end while i pressed firmly on the ratchet end to break it loose
