Yea I cant wait for it. But its not gonna be called a skyline, just Nissan GT-R and definately not R36 since it no longer uses the RB motors.
I look forward to seeing it in action. But I am so sick of seeing g35 coupes everywhere. I hope it really is set apart (looks-wise) from that car.
I personally think it's a bit of a bastardization of the Skyline...which is why I'm glad they dropped the "Skyline" tag from it. I'm sure the GT-R will be a good car in and of itself; I have 2 issues with it... 1) It will be a Nissan which means it will be services by Nissan and will also become much more ricer-centric. Look at the G35 vs 350z... Same car - but one is designed to be more upscale performance. Even down to the service techs that work on it at the dealerships - Infiniti provides better service all around. 2) I'm pretty sure they got rid of the all-wheel steering; one of the key components of the skylines of days gone by... All wheel drive is great and all - but the ability to steer using all 4 wheels would SERIOUSLY set the car apart... I guess I'm just a purist when it comes to certain things. I'm sure it'll be a fantastic car - but *shrug*...
Yeah, something about the new Skyline just does not seem right to me. I don't know if its the V6 or the huge departure in styling. And a 7 speed gearbox? Does that mean no stick? Sounds kinda like the "new supra" with a mid-mounted v10 and a Lexus badge. Badass car sure, but thats not a supra. I would not call it the most "The most eagerly anticipated new performance car of the century." But then again, I will reserve final judgment till I see one.
I would definitely have to disagree with you here. Ever since the first Gran Turismo game, the Skyline has been a big name around the states. The WRX/STi and the Evo was in that game also, but did not generate nearly as much hype. The Skyline is by far "the most eagerly anticipated new performance car of the century", if not "the most eagerly anticipated new performance car, period."
It's gonna rock for sure, but I keep waiting for a post that calls it the 2010 Nissan GT-R or something. I mean if they want to they can just keep on pushing it back! It would definitely take the title from the stinkin Corvette, even though don't ge me wrong... I love the Z06 in a lot of ways. I agree about all wheel steering and I'd like it better if it had a straight six. But I see the 7 speed tranny as a good thing as long as the gates are quick. It will totally stand out from the 350 and the G. Even from a distance one glance is all we should need.
Whats wrong with the vette? For $70k I would much rather have the Chevy over the Nissan. And what about the Blue Devil/ZR1 Corvette coming out? [Edited for YungDz] That thing is sex :jerk:
Ding, Ding, Ding. Right Answer I would much rather have a Nissan than a Chevy any day. Corvette or GT-R is a much harder question, but still got to go with the import. Reliablilty alone will beat the Vette.
For me, its whichever of the two (or any number of other cars) that drives the best. A car is a hell of alot more than an engine. If I could have a dedicated track vehicle, than it would def. be whichever of the two is the fastest, as it is, I want something that gives me grins on my ride home from work as much as it does on track days/auto-x's...
The thing is - Vette's get sick gas mileage on highway and city for such a high performance car... That does factor in... I think there will be a LOT of heavy competition between them; and with the GT-R having AWD; that will be a big factor. However, the Vette has just as much of a cult following (at that level) as most any other car. It will be like a Georgia vs GA Tech game every day at the track between those two... Personally it would be a hard choice - Vette's are actually pretty reliable and the interior design on them is just sweet... Plus - as mentioned - with the new Z06 SS (or ZR1 or whatever it's called) coming out...*drool*
no manual? gay. I bet once the covers are taken off it's gonna look more like a ferrari/lambo supercar than a nissan, and I doubt it's gonna be very 'ricer' with a 70k pricetag
I agree with what someone said earlier, no doubt it's going to be a fantastic car, but it just doesn't have that skyline cult feel about it. I hope it sounds stupidly aggressive and gives a harsh ride. I suppose I'm worried that I'm going to see a bunch of them driven around by rich idiots who think they're the shit. I like the rarity of them and hope they remain like that. The same applies to the Supra. I think it comes down to the fact that if I'm going to spend 70 g's on a car I won't be buying Japanese.
I really like inline sixes, a la Supra and BMW, but I'm not as much a fan of boosted V6's unless it's in a Buick. I love the black 3-box Grand National's and GNX's though. I'll want to hear what the potential power output the of the V6 in the GT-R will be when the tuners start applying their skills to it.
its expected in the 1000's like the i6's and the V layout helps with the balance of the car. We'll just have to see.
Personally I love the idea of a boosted V6. In fact I'm HUGELY dissapointed in our American friends at Ford for not making a Mustang that can kick ass with a good V6. It took them an extra 21 years (over Honda) to finally develop variabe valve timing. Such a disapointment..... I have no doubt that the GT-R's 6 is going to prove itself to be a true fire-breather. Way, way better than the NSX's V6 for example....
