Topspeed called and needed a donor car to test out Prosport's unequal length header and uppipe combo. They had their work cut out for them as the Prosport header was going against my severly worked over stock header consisting of a full port/polish/ceramic coated header with a ceramic coated injen cross pipe and a ceramic coated and head shielded APS up pipe. I was able to oblige and ended throwing down the biggest numbers Scott Siegel(tuner) has seen out of stock 2.0 with a vf39 on pump gas. Final numbers were 302whp and 311wtq@21psi on pump. SAE corrected. Before and after graphs just for comparison sake... 250whp is with my b/a stock header and p&p'd and ceramic coated stock turbo on 19 psi 280whp was my initial tune still on stock header, not tuned all the way out 304whp pull was a full tune on 21psi, still b/a stock header 308whp was with the prosport header added The car was making 298whp and 305wtq on two consistent pulls back to back before installing the Prosport header and up pipe. So it was good for 4whp and 12lb/tq, weighed 10lbs less over a very crucial area of the car, and was running less boost up top while making more power. Spool was justttt a hair slower, maybe 50-100 rpms...but its a full SS header with bigger runners going against a cast and ceramic coated header, the fact that it was even remotely that close really suprised me. This header would be worth an EASY 10-15whp on anyone running a stock header. For referance, my 05 STI with a TBE tune made 295/355 on this dyno on 93 oct and trapped 107.5mph, and it made 305/360 on 100oct race gas map and trapped 109.7mph. Waiting for Scott to send the before and after. SAE graph posted above, 302 and 311 final SAE corrected. Yep kept the headers on.
I did a Dom 3 on an '07 Limited down in Tampa that picked up 25whp and 25wft-lbs with no other changes... It was about a month apart between tests and I thought that was more gain than expected... It does appear that the best gains are on vehicles that can raise the boost at higher rpms. This car had a manual so you get whatever boost it wants up top based on what it makes down low. The next car that we tried these headers on was an '08 with a stock turbo. It gained significantly in torque, but was already maxing the wastegate by 5k rpm so it didn't gain much up top. Siegel
Don't forget the gains I made on my Maddad Equals. Peak not a whole lot but many people can not read a dyno sheet for their life. Look across the meat of the powerband and I'm making very impressive midrange gains. Good for another .1 in the 1/4 and almost 1 more mph which is a good bit in the 1/4 mile.
The headers are nice and fit pretty well. We tested on my wife's 08 STI last Friday. I didn't gain much of anything WHP wise but did gain right at 16 WTQ. WHP was hurt due to the fact that the WG duty was already maxed out on the stock header. Spool was about 150-200 rpm sooner with the PS header. The one thing that is a sign of good things to come is the fact that the car made the same WHP while running about 1psi less boost up top. This thing will shine when the Green or Dom 2.5r goes on a little later down the road. Needless to say, I kept the header also. And the thing that I personally liked the most is the fact that I was able to put the plastic under tray back on. Can't be done on the GR's without trimming. Hats off to Scott as usual. He was awesome as always!!!
Thought you were gonna do a rotated setup on the 08. Regardless nice gains. I haven't even tried to put my plastic tray back on....wonder if mine will fit the equal lengths?
I still might go with a 30r. The wife pretty much put a spending halt on mods for her car. I might be able to talk her into a nice used stock location turbo and DW 740's. Dunno right now. But if I had my choice, it would be a 30r all the way. I think that the under tray will fit with MOST EL headers. Did you get the Maddad EL or UEL? Throw me some installed under shots of yours if you have any handy. I'm thinking of either the Maddad EL's or Covert Performance EL's for my 05.
I got Maddad EL's. Scott liked them alot but both him and Doug gave me grief on the sound . Scott was trying to initially get Maddad's to test but Rich has been very very very busy lately. I will send you some undershots but can we wait until after the swap? 2 weeks I hope.
That's cool man. I just swapped from my Magnaflow Ti to a Maddad Whisper on my 05. Rich is hard to get but is a super nice guy. And the Whisper is immaculate and has a nice quiet sound. I'm happy with it and really going to give the Maddad headers a hard look for sure based on the quality of the CB. Don't know anybody looking for a very light but loud exhaust do you? My Magnaflow is for sale.
Just a fun little somewhat related update. Did a mpg test today just for shits and giggles, drove 140miles at ~67mph average with no A/C, good consistent highway miles....29.16mpg.........shibbie.
