I had a day to kill today...so I thought I would head up to the mountains for a drive. On the road bikes, there is a ride we do every year called 6 Gap which covers all of the main peaks just north of Dahlonega, so I decided to hit it in the car. The GPS had a little bit of trouble tracking in some areas and I cut a little bit of the original route off on purpose (there are miles added to make it a century that are kind of boring). The final milage total is around 84. Every drive starts with one of these... Top of Blood Mountain Descending Hog Pen Gap Neels Gap Brasstown Bald (drove up to the top too) Top of Wolf Pen Gap Top of Woodys Getting ready to head out. One more picture coming down Woody's while waiting on a slow ass Tocoma who was slowing down for the turns ahead signs and wouldn't pull over. The map (straight lines are the areas where the GPS was having issues)
would have been nice to test out the konis on my wrx...mehh...i'd rather leave it parked and save the gas money. all those roads you took pics of, i've been through on my bike several times very fun roads. did you stay straight or make a right at that gas station?
http://maps.google.com/?ll=34.688248,-84.021388&spn=0.006616,0.009291&t=h&z=17 if u make the right at 180, thats where the fun roads come in....on my bike, i shit my pants everytime i ride this way bc i feel like i'll fall off the side of the mountain
I ride with a bunch of ex autox racers...so I think we are more aware of cars than most. Besides...we are actually mountain bikers that road ride when the weather doesn't cooperate and to stay in shape. I wouldn't exactly call doing 55 mph on skinny ass tires queer though...
Next time you come up to Dahlonega Let me know I am currently Stationed at Camp Merrill and live in Dahlonega
I work 12-16 hours daily during the week but on the weekends anytime would be awesome! And we can probably get some good pics of our rides seeing how we are both into Photography!
Wolf Pen Gap was the 2nd road on my first mountain run. It scared the shit out of me the first time. Every time after that I've had a blast. That road is for sure not for the faint of heart. My last run on 180 I pretty much lost my brakes. They drastically overheated and were virtually useless.
so many suby owners in NE ga I've got a 02 wrx that I'm about to start on if you guys have any time to kill and feel like turning a wrench or two for free beer. I live in between clarkesville and cleveland.
WPG is my favorite road in GA! So fun in the winter after all the leaf lookers have gone. Just pray no road salt has been laid on the road. hnoes:
I know I am about two weeks late but I was thinking of heading up that way sometime tomorrow since it is supposed to be nice out to try out the new GoPro if anyone is interested??
