Hey guys, i posted on here about belt noise earlier about a whine when my car was cold. Since dec. 20 ive done about 1600 miles worth of driving and the whine is becoming worry some to me. the whine is now very loud and constant. Ive done some searching and have seen that the A/C idler pulley may be the issue. The whine is def. coming from the A/C and idler pulley area and sounds just like a supercharger is the best way i can describe it. Holler at me if anyone knows whats up.

have you changed the belt recently? I opened the hood one day in my wrx and found that belt shredded in one spot down to one thread.

But probly a year or so later the ac idler pulley actually wore itself out and the bracket actually snapped around the adjustment bolt. On top of a leaky compressor.

try replacing the pulley...it is not uncommon for these to go bad. Think you can get one at Autozone or Advanced.

    same here
remove the AC idle pulley and inspected looks fine - greased the pulley bearings and reinstall - whine less but could be due to tension belt adjusted. i checked Alternator and water pump and they are all smooth and ok. -

My last try is to remove the AC belt and if it still has the sound of jet engine then = My car is made from JET heritage :)

last option AC or timing belt tensioner

My AC belt tensioner as well as my friends both went out in under 100k miles. Mine actually grenaded and took a chunk out of the timing cover.
