A hole in my axle back? Fixes?

The GF and I have both been bothered by the drone in the FXT for a while. Money is very tight so I decided to throw the stock back box on. While taking the aftermarket unit off, I found that one of the hangars had broken off the pipe and taken a part of the pipe WITH it.

So here is this hole a bit larger than a pea on the top side of the pipe, just where it bends to go into the muffler. (upstream) It is obvious that that on one of my outings the sway bar and the hangar decided to have a who's bigger challenge and the sway won.

    My question is two-fold:

    1) Im thinking a good two-part, solid epoxy to repair it sans mount. I have used a two part epoxy to repair some "thin" spots in the intake runner of some SBC heads I got a little carried away with the porting. I could have it welded up, too. Would you just do the epoxy or find a guy with a TIG or brazing rods?

    2) The size of the hole doesnt suggest that a large amount of sound would escape. Would you bother with the re-install after the fix to test the sound w/ some long hangers or shop for a quieter axle back?

My current axle back is a 3" WBR, FXT specifc unit. The drone is just too much at highway speeds.

Same thing happened to mine... I tool it to the local Midas along with the piece that broke off and had it welded back on. If you cant have it welded back on, they can weld a piece of metal and another hanger.

Yeah do this. It shouldn't cost you more than like 20 dollars and will likely be a permanent solution.

Im told the sti ab fits by modding one of the hangars. at least it's 2.5" instead of 2.25.

I am amazed at how whisper quiet the stock AB is even with a catless UP, 3" Helix catted DP and 3" mid-pipe.

you'd think I was total stock.

I killed it twice b/c I didnt hear the exhaust and didnt give the Fozzy enough juice!

I am sure Nicad would weld it for you for a six pack of good beer:)

I'd gladly pony up a sixxer of good beer for the fix, but the question remains...

bother with the re-install to test the sound or sell and seek another aftermarket unit or STI unit?

There has to be something inbetween what I have and the whisper quiet crap I just put back on! :squint:
