Soo, ive been reading up on lowering springs a GOOD bit and decided i wanted to get them and work up my way to springs/struts deal. Im thinking of Swifts, Tanabe's and im really wanting some RCE black/yellow but im afraid my WRX cant handle those. Any ideas on some good springs??? Im just lost in spring world right now... Im looking for springs that will give me a decent drop to look good and also noticeable performance, decrease in bodyroll so i can have some fun cornering and driving! I dont mind having a rough ride and feeling all the bumps i go over!
how low do you wanna go? are you going to replace the struts? cuz you may as well save up the $ and do it all at once
im looking at 1.0 to 1.4 max. Yea down the line i am going to replace them but not right now. As soon as i save up, just will be a little longer due to speeding ticket... :unamused:
It may be a little lower than you want to go, but i've got an S-Tech/05 wrx strut combo for sale for $100.
I am on S-Tech but my ride is not bouncy thanks to the Koni Sport struts I installed too. But as posted in the following thread S-Techs seemed like a no so good choice. http://www.wrxatlanta.com/forums/showthread.php?t=24379 Although the stance looks really good... Read the thread there is alot of good comments and advice.
Yea i dont mind the bumpy ride..i like feeling it all. But as far as the drop goes, ive heard that 1.5 is MAX and anything over that can ruin suspension instead of help so im keeping a little above that. I read a good bit of threads about S-Techs and nothing but bad things have been said about them it seems. I was really leaning to RCE blacks/yellow but i dont know if thatll be ok on my WRX struts. Everyone that has them is very satisfied with them but it seems most people that do are running them on STi's which can handle them
Ill have rce yellows for sale in a week I just replaced them with swifts. They're decent springs, and certainly provide a sporty ride!
Oh really?? I was looking to buy them in a week too i just cant seem to make up my mind. Which ones did you like better, swifts or RCEs as far as a pretty tight ride and performance wise???
I had my dropped lower than 1.5, it was 2.0/1.7 didnt hurt anything until I went off road, Couldnt resist. I can tell you stay away from Perrin Springs, the ride is worse than just bumpy, its brutal. http://www.oakos.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=PSP-SUS-310
Yup, like I siad. I was fine till I went offroad with it. :ddirty: Guess it all depends on what you want. I do have to say, with just running stock wheels, and ZR tires, it handled awesome being dropped that low. Downside of corse is speed bumps and mud holes.
mud holes? how about the craters in downtown? That's where your damage happened, not trying to keep up with the wagon off roading
Damn, yea 2 inch drop is way to much for me! Perrin drops the car to low... But hey Alex, how did you like the RCE springs? Any reasons ur switching to Swifts???
Sure thing! Here's the droop / travel I thought I remembered you telling me that your rear struts were blown. You explained to me at one point why your car was much lower than it was supposed to be. I got new struts and wanted to try something different. The RCEs were fun, but once my rear STi struts started to go I wanted to try something new -- never hurts right? Plus, I wanted to raise the car up a tad so I could run 255s in the future without a problem (even though the fenders are already rolled).
I have had STech's on stock suspension (what a total piece of garbage), had Perrin springs on stock suspension (again garbage), Tein Flexes (decent/okay but no travel), and now sport Tokico DSpecs with RCE Blacks (I simply LOVE these).
Thats the exact same setup im looking for, i just need some time to save up for the D Specs. How much did that all cost u if u dont mind me asking so i get some kind of price range? thats cool thought but hey Alex..What did you think about the RCEs?? Performance...drop???
So i ordered the Tokico D Specs and RCE Yellows. Veryy excited to install them, they come in tomorrow, so this weekend is when theyre going on, doing it myself! (even though ive never installed struts/springs before) But i do have a question though...how much do i have to cut the bumpstops???
Here is the posted "information"... RCE Yellows: 295F / 275R & 23mm F / 20mm R RCE Blacks: 285F / 269R & 15mm F / 10mm R 1 inch = 2.54 cm or 25.4 mm.
I got the alignment down. First i gotta get the damn springs. They were suppose to come in today but the springs i got where Cusco springs??? Ah, so i gotta call tomorrow and sort it all out. Struts come in tomorrow...hopefully! ...real disappointment today though
Alright so everything is installed and done. Finished today, it wasnt too hard, just time consuming and a little nerve-racking since it was my first time ever messing with the suspension, so i had to make sure everything was done right, atleast to my knowledge. I absolutely love the way its sits and handles. The RCE yellows are perfect for me and what i was looking for with the D Specs, which are set to 3 rotations from full stifness. Drove it around the block a little and no clunking sound or anything, everything seems to be good! ...Now for an alignment tomorrow. Finally time to order some new wheels and tires...thinking about getting 18x8.5 Rotas gforces or 18x8 Rota Tarmac 3s or some 18inch Enkei Performance EDR9. ....Any other suggestions??
Idk really, I just think 18s are too much wheel. All your choices f wheels you made are good though. Enkei RP-F1 is another to consider.
Yea ive been looking at that. Ive been checking out the Rota Thread on NASIOC and also thought that 18 seemed to much at first...but i think it kind of grew on me? The more i looked at the pics of different cars with different sizes, the more i started leaning to 18s, at first i was set at 17 though. And then theres also the hundreds of options of tires to go with too! ahh...
Ok so i think im sticking to 18x8 so the EDR9s are out since the come in 18x7.5. So now im between P1s and Tarmac 3 or G Forces...I just need to see which goes best with the car.
Yea i want to...but im really looking into the Rota Tarmac 3s but they just come in 18x8 on wheeldude.com.
