I have given up installing my AFR guage, I would really like to monitor inbound air temp. I can buy the guage, but my question is how and where to mount it CLEAN? Any suggestions weclome.

forget it all and get the Ecutek Data Monitor like myself......save time and money in the long run.....

    $150 AFR
    $150 EGT
    $150 BP

450+ god knows how much to install all those....
    okay thats 3 gauges

    Data Monitor
    Over 30+ Monitors
BP,EGT,OP,OT,AM,IT,etc/etc.........stuff they don't even make gauges for

$680 and you install yourself in about 10 mins

    Just my thoughts

if you do go for the install i like this method clean and out of the sight of others. and in good view when driving.
the link is a boost guage but the pod install is still the same

    pod install

i'd strongly recommend the ECUTEK monitor provided funds are available

I opted for a EcuTek Delta Dash setup. I don't want guages cluttering the dash and making the car more obvious than it already is. I only really use that stuff during autocross and after new mods. It reads the same info as the other Ecutek display, but it also has road dyno capabilities, data logging, and an easier to read display. The downside is, you need a laptop. Oh...and you can buy it for 3-4 hundred new. I got mine for 200 ish used.

Well are you hooking the AFR gauge into the stock o2 sensor?? if so that may be your problem. For an AFR gauge to work where the readings mean anything it needs to be wired into a wideband o2 sensor im pretty sure. someone else prolly knows better than i do. from what i know o2's must continuously switch voltage so that would just make the gauge bounce from side to side.

No, you're right; a narrowband O2 sensor like the stock one will give you a nice light show and that's about it. Oh, and it'll tell you when you are WAY off, but not with any accuracy where you are...

that is why a iam not install the afr and want an air temp guage in the pod

OK, I gotta throw my $.02 in here. Is the Data Monitor reading the ECU sensor data only? If so, isn't it reading a narrowband O2 sensor, and the stock EGT sensor which is often not installed on an aftermarket up-pipe and seems to be in a less than ideal location at that.

Seems like there's value in aftermarket AFR and EGT gauges with separate sensors.

honestly i dont really see any value in having an IAT gauge. if i was you id track down a wideband o2 sensor, AFR is much more important that IAT. Im sure the sensor would be close to the same cost as another gauge.

If you want to install it I would go ahead and tap it into a silicone intake hose. Such as a Maf hose or a inlet hose, it wouldnt be too difficult, mount it like any other gauge, id prefer to see post I/C intake temps, and that would be hard to do on a TMIC, perhaps a y-pipe install.
