My buddy Arnold (i dunno if he is on the site yet) that i work with will soon be running an air-to-water intercooler setup on his WRX!! He has already bought and mounted a massive front heat exchanger. He already has a new spearco air to water intercooler and 30 feet of lines. The only thing he lacks is a pump and tank (he may use the washer bottle) and he needs to figure out how he is going to mount it and then have some piping made. Im interested to see how it will compare to the conventional air to air setup. Ill keep you guys posted on how goes!
Yeah. I saw him at SOG and he showed me the progress so far. It looks like it's going to be a pretty good set up. Car is going to be a beast. P.S The car he is working on is Gary's old suby.
Yeah i know, Gary's got a Legacy now too! He blew the old motor up, the bottom end is now built (2.0 liter still). So it should be able to handle quite a bit of power! Yeab that intercooler setup is gonna be crazy! It should cool just as well as a FMIC if not better, plus the fact that its short piping! So very little lag increase.
http://www.key-ideas.com/AirWaterIC.htm Thats the best i could find, theres some good info on there. If you have any questions just ask, im sure someone can give you some more insight!
I think we're going to dyno the present stock WRX tmic tomorrow morning to compare against. We will be able to run a LOT more boost through that air-water IC though... SS
Arnold got some baseline runs in before the intercooler to compare before/after numbers. He put down i think 268hp 270tq after some tuning adjustments from SS.
VF34. Surprisingly, he has a HKS downpipe with no bellmouth. I figured that would hurt his numbers a little.
UP, DP, hks catback (my old one), injen CAI, built bottom end, exedy clutch, vf34, bigger injectors, walbro pump, and maybe some other little stuff. Oh and ecutek of course.
We could have made more but that stock WRX TMIC is just not very big.... We have planned all along on upgrading the IC system, so there was no need to push hard on the stock WRX TMIC... SS
