Yes but there is alot more involved than just removing the emblem. Alex's turned out better than mine 'cuz I was more careful since it wasn't mine lol. I'm gonna do one more on Andy's car and start selling them as Alex suggested
I'll take some close up shots if its not raining this afternoon for the journal. Whats nice is that rather than repainting the entire grill black like most of everyone is doing on iwsti right now, we found a trim paint that matched the stock grill sparkle. Just needs a light clear coat and it should look 98% OEM.
Yep, you gotta have the thparkle! ssh: So how did you do it? Did you need to fill any holes/notches after removing the emblem?
It's a very simply DIY job. You remove the grill, then the mesh screen popps off. You cut the center out and then there is a void in the center. Fill it, sand it, prime it, paint it. Scott Esemes on IWSTI also uses the sparkle paint.
esmese's grills are so shiny though, it sorta bothers me everytime I see one. I do believe that Sakari plans on doing a core exchange, so yeah Brian, that's the ticket. Basically, remove the mesh first. Then, with a dremel remove the pillar. Cut down as close to the grill as possible, but leave room to sand, etc without going overkill. Sand the area down, there is still grill housing underneath this, but to create the flushness that I am sure you want, Mike used bondo. A thin layer did the trick, and once sanded and primed, it was flawless. I could not tell that the pillar was even there to begin with! Like I mentioned before, with a light clear coat it will be perfect.
I want to modify my grill at some point and take out the Subaru Emblem, already removed the Mesh and replaced it with the Mad Tyte JDM Grillz Kit from Pep Boyz, Painted Gold for Ubar JDMness.
Alex and I both said you had to remove the mesh. Also, I used a hacksaw blade to remove the center section and for Mirandaa's first Sti we used a hot knife....in case you guys don't have a dremel. God I hope you are joking. STi Mesh > *
so who's up for it? I'm listing it on the website soon after I do Andy's grill. I'm planning on charging $70 which includes the shipping and handling fee to ship it back to the customer. What do you think is a reasonable price for wrxAtlanta members? I'm thinking around $40. Let me know! Note: the total cost of the material is around $20 including bondo, primer, paint and sand paper. Of course you can do many grills once you buy the materials but who has more than 1 grill? ;P Michael
The reason I'm trying to stay away from the whole core charge thing is because STi's have the emblem in the grill and it just gets complicated haha.
