I will be getting my car aligned and new brake pads put on before the Subbie Challenge. I thought I read on here that someone used an alignment that Siegel recommended? I am looking for alignment specs that will offer me a good compromise between autox/street use and brake pads that will do the same. Also, probably going to go ahead and schedule my 30,000 mile check up at SOG. Does anyone know if they replace the Spark Plugs when this service is done? Thanks!
I did Scotts Performance alignment and it was fantastic on the Auto X course, then when I did my lowering springs I got the car realigned at Gran Turismo. When Scott did mine, I had him do Camber Bolts and to set it up specifically for Auto X. My tires were pretty beat, so I didn't care about wearing them out quickly cause of the alignment. Scott did -2.4 camber in the front and the max he could get out of the back, I think it was -.9 in the back. 3" Toe in. Gran Turismo did a more conservative, save the tires alignment that is -2.1 front and again max in the back at -.9. Very happy with both setups.
i say go with carbotech bobcats, i've got mine but i need to pout them on, i can tell you how they are in a day or so. I've heard nothing but praise for them.
Becuase it was a last minute thing and I needed to get tires also. Plus I have heard many, many good things about GT from alot of different people.
Scott, if you plan on using your stock camber bolts, you will have trouble pushing more than -1.4 degrees. If you get new eccentric bolts as Jason did, you can obtain 2.0+. The oe spec for front camber on the WRX is -0.25- that's not a lot, especially for a performance orientated car. The WRX's upper strut bolt is eccentric and allows for adj, w/ the stock bolt- it's common to be able to get close to -1.4 degrees w/ the oem bolt. Camber plates (or caster camber plates) can increase this to close to -2.5 - -3.0. Some have also combined a camber bolt in the lower hole w/ the oem bolt to increase camber. OEM spec in the rear is -1.3. There's little to none adjust in the rear. As far as pads are concenred, look into the Carbotech BobCats or the Hawk HPS. Both have a great reputation on the OEM rotors and calipers and we have members on the site who use both for street and track use or vice versa. Hope this helps.
I am in love with my Project Mu Pads. Much improvement over the stocks. At the time I was looking for a specific friction co and rotor temp range, but cant recall what it was about this set. I have heard nothing but good reviews about them. Mine dust way less than stock, dont make jacked up brembo noises, and worked awesome on the run. Select a good fluid:Mushy Pedal=Boiling Fluid/Expanding Lines Pad temp=Pad fade is when the temp at the interface between the pad and the disc exceeds the thermal capacity of the pad Higher Friction=Better stopping power+More Rotor Wear. Ideally you could measure your rotor temps after a run and select whats best for you. http://www.project-mu.co.jp/e/product.html
I've got the Carbotek XP-9's. Lots of dust and squeeling, but I can threshold brake consistently from 100+mph.
