http://www.subaru.com/auto-show/index.html And does this spell the beginning of the end for the WRX and STI?
With Mitsu announcing the discontinuation of the Evo line, who really knows. I still think the WRX/STi's are Subaru's best sellers, so they would be stupid to drop them, but I also thought the Evos sold for Mitsu, so sales may really have nothing to do with it.

Oh great...so instead of it looking like a Corolla, it will just look like a corolla that belongs rolling down Buford Hwy.
looks like a legacy to me. and i wouldn't be surprised to see STi's go by the wayside. however i think they would keep the WRX, just to offer a turbo platform.
The only part of the car that looks nice is the front... Side profile and rear, forget it. They put 95% of the work into the front, and got lazy with the rest.
Gonna repost comment here for longevity 2008-2011 base model: Happy and Playful 2012 base model: Just kicked a puppy
Wow. Looks like a minivan. The equivalent to a Mazda5. But it's not bad actually. Obviously aggressive.
it takes a picture of what the previous one looked like without the fender flares to realize this won't look too much like the wrx/sti if they keep up the tradition. so just be hopeful
They just seem to be getting bigger with every model year. I know subaru wants to go upmarket, I know they are working with Toyota and maybe the FT-whatever will become their new sporty, coupe, but I still don't understand why you take a car known for one thing and try to make it something else? I fail to see how a larger Imprezza will be good for subaru. They have the Legacy and Forester, how much bigger will they get?
http://www.roadandtrack.com/future-cars/spy-photos/spied!-subaru-ft-86-sti-coupe what ever happened to this thing
1999 Wheelbase 88 in Length 172 in Width 67 in Height 56 in 2010 Wheelbase 103.1 in Length sedan: 180.3 in hatchback: 173.8 in Width 68.5 in Height 58.1 Add another inch to wheel base for 2012 and its grown 16" in that dimension in roughly 12 years. I realize there has to be more bracing, more room to accommodate airbags all over the place, etc. but not to the extent it has grown. Still coming. http://wot.motortrend.com/leaked-scion-fr-concept-pictures-surface-early-69767.html
Might want to check the source. So let's see, they made it wider and increased the wheelbase while decreasing length from 07->08. Isn't this the whole "lower polar inertia" and the reason they went hatch form. From 93->08 i see a wheel base increase of 4 inches, a length increase of 2 inches, and a width of almost 3inches. :squint: 16"?
I stand corrected sir. It is bigger, but not as much as my perception of how much bigger it is would have led me to believe. I cut and pasted from wikipedia, but must have grabbed the 88 number from some other dimension as even on wikipedia it is showing up as a 99 in wheelbase. They will have to do quite a bit with the hatch styling in WRX form to make it intriguing.
this is why i`m working hard so i can take place of the stupid designers lol... but really its not even their fault because most of the times we dont have a choice when the marketing ppl tell you the dimensions, features, etc they want... the scion FR-S looks SWEET though hahaha
I really can't argue much for the feel of the newer models though. Alex might have better input on that end of the debate as he has more historical experience. I really do love the GR though, quite a great car to drive (after sway bars). And I cringed when I saw the back, reminds me whatever the Dodge hatch is more than anything.
I'm sure once the sti gets released a lot of opinions will change, seems to happen everytime. For now I think it looks like a smaller legacy.
Subaru should just bring back the 04-05 body style and quit trying to fix something that wasn't broken.
the lines almost resemble the 02-07 wrx wagons minus a few obvious differences. Will just have to wait for the wrx/sti models I guess.
similar.. saw one of these this morning. I thought the lights looked a little smaller on the caliber I saw though.
