    FTZ ^.^

I saw that on the news last night. Something about it being like a Date Rape Drug.

I used to put all kinds of toys in my mouth. Beads and buttons were always fun to chew on.

no offense but you obviously don't have kids. ;) kids will put everything in thier mouths and eat anything that they can swallow with or without your permission.

EDIT/ just to give you an idea on the size of the beads

Those things look delicous to me. They have to be irresistable for a toddler/baby.

*facedesks a few times* yet another example of the media blowing something way out of proportion. sorry, i just dont like the way civilian media reacts to things like this. being a journalist i understand they thrive on the bad news but come on ...

I would like to know why China manufactured a toy that the body can metabolize into a very potent drug. Something is going on in China. There are way to many products lately that have been manufactured and exported from China that have been recalled.

that i agree with, something is going on over there. but then again we out source alot of our stuff there now so that could be another issue.

I am not sure how it is being blown out of proportion. It is perfect for the black market. If you are a "drug dealer" and can buy a toy for $15, carry it around with you without being able to be arrested for possessing it and turn around and sell it for profit legally. It makes perfect since to me.

Let me ask you the question, who the hell names a product an "Aqua Dot" ?

Also, outsource your toy production to Poland, its about $1 an hr right now. China is cheaper, but it isnt apart of the EU ;)

If they US gave a shit it would either completely stop Chinese Toy importation. I am tired of seeing all these soccer moms on the news begging the US to intervene and help. It isnt our job to help China improve their quality inspection. The US drafted its own standards of quality certification, as did Europe over 50 years ago.

We need to go back to playing with wooden blocks that are unpainted and hand carved in your backyard.

Oh and one more thing, if you want to think someone is at fault think about the US companies who are having their toys made.

    No kidding.

You know, studies have shown that blocks (wooden, Legos, K'nex, etc) are the ONLY toys proven to increase brain function and hand-eye coordination in young children. These studies, IIRC, were done to see how effective the Leap Frog and other baby genius toys actually were.

Both my wife and I didn't really like the idea of using interactive tv to teach but we gave it a try for a couple of months. When our son used it he would just sit there and zone out till an action was required to make it go forward then would bang on a shape. I do have to say that it is a good way to introduce them to animals and the noises they make but most of the time he would just veg out. He is much more interactive and seems a lot happier when he is physically playing with a toy like wooden shapes/blocks, matchbox cars, etc. We still let him play with it maybe once a week for 30 minutes but we are pretty firm with keeping his attention on something more creative. Heck usually when the tv is on in our house it is just to play music from the Sirius satellite music stations.

If you want to take the nueroplasticity stance: computer programs are going to be the most effective way to target and effectively improve certain aspects of your child's brain functions -- eg deficiencies in speech, reading clocks, etc, etc. There is substantial research right now with program design in order to target specific problem areas or mental defects such as autism. Its fascinating the advances they've made.
