Any one paint cars? I want to paint part of my hood red i can get all of the stuff to do it with. I own a DeVillbiss hvlp top feed but i dont want to chance it on the c/f hood. Painted a little but not confident enough to paint it my self. Or am i better off taking it somewhere?
Probably better off taking it somewhere. But you got me thinking, a painting g2g might be a neat idea. I've been wanting to paint my sideskirts for a couple years. I'm sure other people have various pieces they'd like to paint as well. Sorry for the semi-threadjack. I just think painting an entire hood might be kind of risky for a non-pro.
I agree with Alex, and I'm all about DIY. UNless you have a spare hood (or daily driver) to tool around in otherwise.
Where is a good place to paint over the carbon fiber i went next door from my work at maco and they said they wont warranty the job. They dont know how well it will come out.
DO NOT use maco..... You get what you pay for when it comes to bodywork/paint. they'll paint your entire car for $100.... (they mask the windows and thats its... they paint the trim, rubber, wipers, badges, key holes...)
i am not going to i know what they do to cars there. i work right be side it and they give cars hell in the back. it was only going to be the hood tho
gt30r Brian (not GT), is having his hood redone at a shop in Cobb. I saw it the other day, work is coming along nicely and the shop seems to know what they're doing.
There are several custom paint guys around town that can help you out. I'd give you the name of the one i worked with, but you don't want to get involved with him. The wait is about 4 months. If you want it to look good, they'll need to use two-stage paint and smooth it out with several coats of clear and wet sanding. Costs a ton... I'd love to help you myself, but my auto painting days are over. It's not easy and can be a real nightmare. Ask wherever you go if they have ever painted on carbon before. If they say no, don't let them. They could warp the hood when they bake it. Option B is to hit up Denny Designs in Kennesaw and let them install a color matched glossy decals. It'll cost less and can be customizable.
