Take your spare tire out (any anything other extra weight), get some race gas (won't actually do too much w/o a tune, but it certainly won't hurt anything), make sure your air filter is clean. Don't break anything (cough cough drivetrain)or any laws.

Good luck and take out the Vee Dub for all of us.

What turbo and em are you running?

I would drop the PSI in your tires to around 35lbs. Your launch is key. Launch and stay in boost. If he breaks traction you will take him for sure. This is what I might recommend although most of my racing was done in Mustangs. Don't race for pinks unless it's injectors

GT35R+meth, Quick! No you'll toast that vr6 unless he dumped a lot into it. Hell my stock legacy pulled on a slightly modded one. Just don't fubar the launch and you'll be fine. Good luck man :)

You could get a dry ice bag for the intercooler between runs. I've heard of it leaning your car out too much though. Maybe a more experienced racer can comment?

I would run with around a 1/4 tank with maybe a gallon of it 103 oct (unleaded) just to make sure the car stays happy. If you had the abitility to change a few things with the em and boost I'd consider running straight race gas.

Good luck at Silver Dollar. The last test and tune I went to was very crowded. I hope you get more runs in than I did.

If your brakes can handle it, you could try doing a Boost Brake launch like what Coolrex did to get his numbers that everyone was arguing over on Nasioc. It takes practice though, so if you don't know how to do it, you might not have enough time to learn before your race.

PM Coolrex if you want info on how to do it. I am sure he can give you some pointers.

Someone said I should just post up?

What's to say? He has a STi. No need to brake boost.....that was mainly to save the 5 sp. Launch the fricking daylights out of it and pray your axles hold up.

He did, but he also posted his times on Nasioc. I think he had the record for stock turbo and stock tranny, but everyone on Nasioc was calling BS.

    His post about his times

Another post asking for launch advice he posted

    BRAKE TORQUING
Definition: A procedure generally used in performance tests to improve the off-the-line acceleration of a car equipped with an automatic transmission. It is executed by firmly depressing the brake with the left foot, applying the throttle with the car in gear to increase engine rpm, then releasing the brakes. Brake torquing is particularly effective with turbo charged cars because it helps overcome turbo lag.

When I was a kid some six centuries ago we stole my friends Fathers Mercury Zephyr. We brake torque'd it at a light, when we let off the brake the car stalled and the speedometer spun around about 22 times. Blew the tranny to living hell! We towed the car back to his house and left it right where we found it. His Dad never did figure out how his car broke down. I would say with the trannies being a weak point on our cars not to utilize this method.

I have gotten some wicked results riding the bottom half of the clutch as you build rpm and letting it go quick but smooth right at the top since these are top loading clutches. Rather replace a clutch than a tranny.

The tranny is NOT the weak point in the STi

you will NOT break it.. you might blow your axles/ diff before

Yea I guess the R/A gears are better. What the hell then break torque away!

Drag racing is so overrated. I'm glad I'm over that phase of my life. Now I just wanna go fast.....anywhere ;)

get some drag radials, put dry ice on your intercooler between runs, empty your car of all unwanted shit, such as spare tire, crap in the back seat, and also, find a bathroom and take a big shit, as all the weight that you can get rid of will help you get off the line faster.

Whats the weight on the VR6?? Most VW's are pretty heavy aren't they? Pro-tuned STI is approx 290 +/- 10whp right?? So, even if he's at 250whp, you should be lighter than him and have him by 30-50 whp... and you have AWD. I say you'll wipe the tarmac with him.. Unless he's bullshitting about his actual mods or you fuck up the launch.......

ok..i beat him by 2 seconds in the quarter mile from a dig..it was embarrasing..my car runs 12.9s so his isnt very good from a dig..we raced from a 40mph roll and i got him by maybe half a second..hes getting meth next week and im afraid he may get me on a roll

If you are going to race someone, take it to the track.

well..i did in the quarter mile at silver dollar..but he was just blah blah blah after it..and saying he'd get me if we were rolling and he could grip..so i just couldnt take that from him because i knew i had him either way..so we settled that on the way home

i dont usually street race..my first g/f who was 16 died about 2 years ago in a crash..that kinda put a big halt in my street racing..it takes a lot to get me to do it now

Then maybe you shouldn't do it at all... there are plenty of places to go fast legally.

    Hey good job,

I think we are all bitten by the street race bug as hard as we try not to. The way I control it is to race from the street light from a stand still and slow down at close to the speed limit. You can get a decent 60 foot time you get the satisfaction of beating him/her off the line which makes your point and slow down before things get illegal or out of control. That is ONLY if the conditions are satisfactory i.e. you are the first two cars at the light on a four lane road, it's not raining, no construction and no one lane merge approaching. I have used this method for about thirty years of driving and never created a bad situation, or got pulled over. IF it is someone I know who wants to race it’s straight to the track. My biggest fear which keeps me from aggressively street racing is the danger of injuring or killing an innocent bi-stander, motorist and especially a child passenger!

Street Racing is against the rules and regulations of WRXAtlanta.

Please do not post any more Street Racing stories/kills.

    Thanks

I will agree that the Street Racing bug has probably bitten everyone on this site, including myself, however, Street Racing is not supported in any way by this online community.

People will street race, nothing we can say or do with stop that, but if you do street race, keep it to yourself, do not post about it on WRXatlanta. We do not want to hear about it.

Racing from Light to Light, even if you do not surpass the speed limit does not change the fact that you are doing something illegal and dangerous. There is always an unknown variable that can cause someone, racing or not serious injury or death. A road that is empty one moment could be occupied the next. You could launch from the light and accelerate hard, only to have someone pull out of a parking lot and cause an accident.

We live in a city with drag strips, and tracks within a reasonable distance, there is never any excuse to race on the street around here.
