Is there any noticeable difference in performance between the Red brakes on the 06 WRX and the standard brakes on the 05? Or would just good pads, lines and fluid in an 05 be just as good?
Yes. And you can fit a large selection of aftermarket 15 inch racing wheels....which is why I have the JDM 4 pots on my WRX. But, with pads/fluid/lines the stock brakes are just as good for normal use.
I saw some people running rally wheels (15") for 02-05 wrx w/ stock brakes. Also, another good mods for pre 06 wrx is the Legacy H6 outback rear brake disc upgrade. This will increase rear bias slightly to improve (this is aka poor boy's Stoptech BBK) with increased thermo capacity.
i have them on my '02. insurance company gave SOG my money so i put it towards that and install of my tranny. i love them, although i think i need new pads already. probly gonna upgrade the lines and pads all the way around while im at it.
I would like to track some 4 pots as my stockers seemed to hold up *fairly* well. Maybe once I progress to larger tracks the stockers will not hold up but for TGP they did the job. Coming into turns over 100mph with 100% braking fade came in after about 15 - 20 min. But for the price 650 for the 4pots probably worth it. I wish there was try before you buy with performace parts.
naa I think the 4pots will do the job, I want to track the car 6-10 times a year so I think it would suffice. Plus getting squirrly in the turns is kinda fun scarry but fun.
+1. This is what I did. Just remember to bed them PROPERLY. I didn't turn my rotors before I made the switch from HPS. Needless to say, I had some pretty deep grooves in my rotors... but they eventually cleaned up!
I think you need the 12's and 10's since you are going to be carrying a lot of speed and the weight is up around 3050/3100 lbs.
techlord, what type of power are you running? I am trying to get ready for TGP and I think that I need to look at my brakes.... I'm on SS lines, SuperBLUE fluid, HPS pads and stock rotors and calipers.
you should be fine, be prepared for the Hawks to demolish your rotors. I have 306/316 with meth. I need better fluid and plan to get the XP 12's and 10's and as far as the rotors I will just swap them out as the ebay cheapies are 65 shipped so at that price I will just swap them out.
For Brembo applications, correct. However, the smaller WRX spec pads work fine. I know this as I tried to destroy a set....it didnt work. Only faded once in the morning, then they would not fade again.
Do you know what requires very little horse power for lots of fun? SUBARU CHALLENGE.... /end threadjack Brakes are good
