Well I came back across this mod today and have been considering doing this. Faster spool times with slightly more boost sounds good to me and all for under 2 bucks works for my wallet as well. :naughty:

Thinking about going 3/32nd's instead to try and ward off some of the negatives that the 3/16th's can occasionally present with.

anybody here with experience in this mod? I don't have a boost gauge yet so if I do, do this it will only be noticed by the ass dyno.

From all that's been said, I wouldn't bother with it.

Haven't seen this mod in a while.

It doesn't cost much and you get what you pay for.

    I wouldn't bother.

just curious as to why it is so bad. I can't see a lot of issues with it besides boost spiking, thus why I was planning on 3/32

if you cant tune for that you will get boost fluctuations or overboost conditions.
What you are creating is less flow to the actuator hence less leakage and more initial boost.

YOu would overboost but not to apoint where it will exceed 20psi or some crazy number. your CEL will come on first and if stock ECU/ROm it will actually limp your car before it goes kaboom.

I can do something even better for free and less chance of boost fluctuations

what your doing is letting less air though to the 'thing' that opens the waste gate, AND the air that gets there is slower to get there.. hence its you over boost AND build boost faster than your ECU can compensate for.
    in other words BOOM!

    cmon dont scare him
it wont go boom if you didnt go crazy with the mod (like pinch the tube)
worst is it will fluctuate boost a lot (cycling) or spike a few psi more than target.
(i assume he is stock EM) its just not a pleasant drive.

There are checks in the EM that prevents a lot of unwanted conditions but may not catch all when you start to gowild with mods

Cmon man you can build an MBC for less than $20, just do that and set it at 16psi or so and make sure you have a boost gauge so you can watch out for partial throttle full boost. 3/16 mod is ghetto as hell, at least with a MBC you can somewhat control your boost.

    Bad idea again.

There is a reason the stock 2.0 WRX runs 13.93 PSI and not 16 PSI from the factory.

I was under the impression it let more air through.

I was looking for an easy way to help smooth things out a bit, and more boost earlyer sounded good as well. Getting rather tired of the annoying power fluctuations I get under heavy throttle.

More air thru the restictor means LESS BOOST.

I have, and the 26 page one on nasioc.

and I would get em if I had 600 bucks to blow at the moment

or $95 and a laptop and some patience
yes it lets more air through to the BCS = less air to the actuator = more boost

yeah, there is that way. I looked into it for awhile, but I don't really want to tune myself on this car. And it just seemed a bit iffy overall. Granted if done right it can be quite good. I just dont want to take the chance
