Might just be my browser but it seems that some threads have disappeared. I thought the tire discussion was much larger than just a few posts. My RE070's need to be replaced on my 04 STI. I have been looking around and think that I have found a good compromise in the Hankook Ventus V12 evo K110 tires. I do 80+ miles per day in an 85 285 75 commute. Whenever I am lucky enough to get some drive time for fun I'll head north to Wolf Pen Gap and run around the loop there. I need a good performing tire in dry and wet, lasts awhile and is quieter than the original tires on this car. I can spend the money for more RE070s or similar tires but truthfully I think they are wasted on my driving conditions. Later I will get another set of BBS wheels and put racing compound on them for Auto Cross and mountain runs. Your input is requested and welcomed! Michael
Have two sets, one set is the w409's and a set of ventus evo s1's and have to say I'm happy with them. I have a similar drive style so having the high dollar tires on a DD doesn't make sense.
I have the Hankook V12 evo K110...just got them and have maybe 900 miles on them. Still too soon for a full review, but so far so good. The one time in the rain felt good, but so do all tires when they are new. I can take the turn from 75 onto 85 much quicker on these. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Hankook&tireModel=Ventus+V12+evo+K110
sounds like you need two sets of tires...you can get cheap econo tires for $500, then spend some money for a good aggressive set that will last for a while. In the longrun, you'll be grateful, it takes all of 10 minutes to change all 4 tires, and that's with the spare jack
Thnx for the replies. I have a week or so til I can get tires due to travel schedule. Unless there is some glaring issue with the Hankooks I will go with them. I definitely want another set of wheels for premium tires. Anyone got a set of gold or silver BBS they don't need?
I've been running the new RS3s on my S2000... I've put a crap ton of autox runs and many miles of driving to events on them and they have been wearing great. The car that got second at Solo nationals in ST last year was running a year old set of RS3s. They are also about $10 per tire cheaper than the Kumho XS about about $75 cheaper than the RE11 (for 255-40-17). I'd highly recommend them.
I ran the RS-2's once and liked them. Maybe not suited for your daily commute though. The RS-3s replaced them.
I love my RS-2's Ive had three sets of them already I dd on them and they were great. My only complaint were they got loud when they were worn. Compared to other tires like the Kuhmo MX's that I have right now the handled better in the wet and dry. Also you cant beat the price I cant wait to try the RS-3's
but yea i was on my rs-2s for about two years (i think about 35-40k miles of driving) haha. they wear great but do get a little noisy at the end of the life. i would assume you could find the rs-2s for cheap somewhere on the net. be aware for its stiff sidewalls though. my prodrive springs and blown struts def felt underrated for the tire but i guess you would be ok since you ran the re070 and its going on the sti.
I have the rs-2's. not sure if tire rack has anymore but they have been great so far. GTE on shallowford road for the install. All my cars go there for tires and alignment. great guys.
