AP Protune not hitting my target boost

I was hoping some of you guys could point me in the right direction of what to do. My accessport is protuned, and capable of hitting 19 PSI (~1.31 hKPA).

It has been working just fine, except today I went to the gas station to fill up (BP), and decided I would flash the real-time map again just to make sure it hadn't been reset. My car felt really sluggish, and wouldn't boost past 1.20 hKPA (17.4 PSI).

However I did have 4 people in the car, so I thought that could be something to do with it. So after I got home from shopping, I did a hard reset, and reflashed my Protune real-time map again.

I took my cousin to Chick-Fil-A to test it out, and this time I was getting 1.17 (17 PSI). Now I'm really frustrated :squint: .

On my way home from Chick-Fil-A I get to the front of a red light, and when it changes I really go WOT to check everything out....

    1st Gear: .93 (13.5 PSI)
    2nd Gear: 1.03 (14.9 PSI)
    3rd Gear: 1.10 (15.95 PSI)

I know it's not my gauge reading wrong, because my car really did feel sluggish.

I dropped my cousin back off at home and went out again. This time on my own after reflashing again I managed to get myself up to 17.4 PSI in 3rd gear, but thats still not what it's supposed to be at.

If anybody can help give me suggestions of what may be wrong, I would really appreciate it.

    Thanks!

which gauge are you using, are you using the AP boost values ?
Which Base map are you using ? ?

BTW did you do a reset ?
Maybe you need to perform a Vishnu reset

I am using Scott Siegel's Base Map, and no I haven't actually plugged in my AP to check the boost values, I'll do that later on tonight. My gauge is on my Turbo Timer, and it's accurate because I compared it to the AP gauge during the protune.

I did the reset where you unplug the negative side of the battery and pump the brake to bleed the power out of the car, then re attach the negative side and flash the ecu again.

might be related to weather. During this hot summer day time, your turbo needs more WGD to make same boost (hotter air=lower air density=more air needed for the same boost). my 18psi ecuteked wrx makes 16.5-17psi during hot summer and pulls harder at colder season.

May want to check with Cobb to see if you should use a Stg II base map.

Yes the ambient temps makes a diff

There is a Master reset thats easier to use on the AP

Check into a Vishnu reset to get you back onto target boost quicker by correcting the factors.

  6. Call Scott and ask him. I know when he tuned my car if i had any question even after the tune he didnt mind me calling and asking. BUt im going to say its due to weather. I would re-flash with scott tune and wait till it cools off tonight and youll find the car will drive better. Mine has mood swings from time to time and will feel like its running worse then ever but then a few a little while later itll fell like a new car. Got to remember im in almost 100% humidty and almost 100 Degrees so its hell hot and crappy here.

yeah, it was really humid today so I should have taken that into account. and the reason for being such low Boost will be because I tried just a flat reset, no vishnu, in really humid weather.

On a positive note, I'm thinking about getting an 02/03 STi painted hood scoop with an STi air splitter. Give my IC a little fresher air to breath on :D

Don't get the STI scoop from APS. Mine and soldrums have a lump in the exact same place, HAS to be a defect. Looked great 'til a week after paint and install.

I'm going to order mine from Gruppe-S, I'll find out from them who makes it.

    Thanks for the heads up

    Craig

I believe the scoop on Gruppe-S & Subydude.com are genuine OEM scoops from Japan.

    +1 ;)

This is the best way to do it. If you send me a datalog, *IF* it needs a tweak I can just tweak the map and e-mail it to you. That's the best thing about AP.

I set the cars so that the boost is VERY based on intake air temps. If you're intake air temp is over 140 (which it is ANY time you sit still in this heat for more than 30 seconds) it slightly lowers the boost... this keeps the car happy and running full timing.

Peak boost will normally be hit ONLY from 3k to 4k rpm in 3rd, 4th and 5th gears. 1st and 2nd should get close, near 17 psi, but remember that there is a boost taper starting near 4k...

If you ever have any questions, please call me. (8-8)
