Its been a long time since I have done this and I can't wait to get out there. The event will be held at the Gwinnett County Fairgrounds on Sunday, 10/8. I encourage everyone to participate. to register go to http://www.soloatlanta.com/ and click on 'Register'. For those interested in simply checking it out, I will be taking ridealongs on all my runs. I can pack 3 passengers during each run. This will allow 12 ridealongs during the event. Hope to see you all there. How many will be attending? Milo, I am planning to go for this one too. I have only been to 1 autox so far and loved it. I had people riding along with me, but never rode with someone. Can I put my name down as a passenger for one of your run?
I will definitely be there, and I will have a co-driver. There will be two other guys with me in a turbo'ed protege and a focus. I think we are doing some camping the night before so there is less of a drive. Since we aren't having the Subaru Challenge, the people that signed up should come to this if they can, since its only the next day.
i will be there to watch and learn and if anyone dont mind i like to ride along. Do I need to bring my own helmet ? I live a stone throwaway.
Autocross primer: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=951026 my wife and I will be there, running in the morning session for AS and CSP, and probably be hanging around in the afternoon session also. -- Brian
I'll be there too. I've just finished my new suspension setup and i'm eager to try my first autocross.
looks like its gonna be a good turnout ... im really looking forward to this if u have your own helmet, then bring it along... however SCCA provides loaner helmets
How the heck do I register for this on the website? I click on the registration button on the side and then it lists the events, but the one on 10/8 (and pretty much all the other ones say 'closed'...
to everyone participating: make sure you sign up for the WRXatlanta challenge ... for details, click the link in my signature
I just moved to Atlanta about a month ago with my wife from Milwaukee and will try to make the event. I've been autocrossing a few years and had my 06 WRX prepped for DS but the race tires didn't make the trip down. So I'm just going to run it in STU for the fun of it. I have an SM Subaru that I'm still building that is also at home. If anyone knows anyone with space where I could store a car and trailer I'd appreciate it. I ran a ProSolo at Gwinnett fairgrounds a few years ago. Phil
They have loaner helmets, and there is a guy from RFR there who sells helmets. I believe mine was $60-70 there. If you buy one, make sure it is Snell rated, M2000 or higher. -- Brian
The car should be done by then (its now been moved to the weekend of Petit Le Mans), and if that's the case, I'm there
I still am not 100% certain which class..this one the same as the subaru challenge? I was in between the SM class and the one below it. Again mods at this point include: TMIC, TBE, catless UP, high flow cat, AP, wideband o2, springs, 18" wheels
yup....i just hope they don't rub too bad if I don't get the stiffer springs in time. They are way shorter than my street setup, but the lower offset kicks them out a bit farther.
What date are they supposed to open the registration? It is still saying closed...I just want to make sure I register and don't forget!
SM is killing me. I don't really car about PAX though. I am still placing pretty well in SM considereing my tires. They are old, hard Kumho MX's that are not the weapon of choice. I usually get 5th place out of 12, I figure good R-comps would net another 1-2 seconds, which would be good for 2-3 place. I'm looking forward to seeing "Buzz" the CRX
www.saferacer.com is a good place to get cheap helmets. Thats where I got my G-Force G-650 helmet. It was like $90. I really don't like SM. In some regions the difference between winning and losing is lots of $$$$.
i don't end up modding my car for a particular autoX class... i end up adding the parts i want and then figure out what class i fall into... hence i will never win
I am in the same boat. Based on PAX, I am so overclassed for what I have, also doesn't help in the WRXatlanta Challenge Class since that is based on PAX and I would still be considered SM. However, my pleasure comes from driving my car. Auto X is just an added benefit to enjoy pushing the car, much like I would like to do on the street, though I don't want to put anyone elses life in danger. I go to Auto X to have fun driving, not to win. I know that I will not win, so might as well just accept it, and know that next time, if I want to win, then I need to build the car for the class, not build the car, and then get stuck in a class.
PAX friendly cars can still be fun. I drove a friend's ES MR2 a couple of events ago, and was able to pax 28/176 on my first time out with it. This is higher than I was ever able to get my crx up to. I don't expect to be able to PAX too high in the CRX, as it is a 20yr old car, that isn't as good as the newer miatas in my class. We had our friend drive our AS STi, and he PAX'd 7th/187 in it, so I guess the STi can be competitive with a good driver. That was before we got the shocks too. For me, the main thing is to know that I am improving, and learning something, instead of making the same mistakes each event. -- Brian
Registration is open: http://www.dlbracing.com/clubs/auto...a.aspx?Max=199&CSN=true&SMI=true&EventID=2356 The online registration doesn't cost anything, and you pay when you get to the event. You might get an error when you first access it, so you first need to create an account, and having log you in, and then click the above link again. It worked for me the 2nd time, after I logged in. As for the high PAX of SM, Arnold has something to say about that: and just go out there to enjoy yourself Make sure to specify WRXatl as the model of your car -- Brian
Since this is my second time doing the autox, what class should I be in and what session are most of you all going, just so i can sign up accordingly.
I have a question. I didn’t know exactly what the WRXatl challenge was or how to get into it when I started the autocross season. Now that I know what it is and have changed the model on the registration will it only tally my points from this point on or will it go back to the start of the season? Thanks, Kyle
If this is still only your second time, run as a novice again. This will be your last chance to do so. After this event, you would need to figure out your class.
remember to put your car in as this: Make: Subaru WRX STi (or whatever your car is) Model: WRXatl That way, it will be added to the WRXatlanta challenge. -- Brian
