I'll be out of town, so I can't go....but after this, I will be going to as many auotx's as possible.
Sat is not open to everyone, only the SCCA members that plan on going to the Nationals event in Topekia, KS. I'll be there Sunday running in STU.
I read through the rulebook and still cant figure out what modifications put you in which class. From what i saw, WRX's fall into either D Stock, Street Touring Extreme, Street Prepared or Street Modified. What distinguishes them?
Ramblin, what mods do you have. List your mods and we can tell you what class you are running in. Also, have you done an SCCA Auto X yet. If not, you can run Novice Class for 2 events, after that you would have to run in class.
Oh, i'll be novice, but i'm not going to this one most likely, will plan for one in the future. I figure, i'm not going to have anything besides an STI wing and catback, maybe a gutted uppipe. Aside from that if i want to stay in stock i can get better tires right? But after you get aftermarket exhaust parts, suspension mods and ECU flashes it bumps you up to STX?
i thought stock meant, well, stock. even tires can knock you out, right? also, is it too late in the season to start? i want to get into, but feel i need a novice class or two, to get me rollin'. heehee, i said tu-tu.
Even Tires is an understatement. Tires at least change the performance of the car. If you debadge your car and do nothing else, then you can no longer run in stock. Now this is more for Nationals level. For local SCCA, I don't think anyone would complain.
In D stock, you can run any DOT approved stock sized tire; any stock sized wheels as long as they are not more than -/+.25 difference on offset; a front sway bar is allowed; and IIRC, struts are allowed as long as the stock mounting points aren't changed, suspention geometry isn't changed; axle-back exhausts are allowed as are stock sized airfilters. Pretty much everything else must be Stock.
wow, there are alot of people going to this! i'm kinda sad i'm gonna miss it! have fun everybody! how much do you want to bet there will be no offset salom since i'm not attending .
I decided to register, i'll be running novice afternoon and most likely spinning out because of my wonderful stock tires See you all there, could i get someone to PM me their phone # that will be there so i can meet up? AHA, I was thinking, hey, there's probably going to be some good competition in the novice group. It ought to be fairly even...nope, there's a Lotus Elise in our group! Guess i'll just have to ignore him when comparing times.
i agree... ive spanked elises before and at the same time gotten my ass handed to me by civics .... its a lot to do with the driver
my nemesis civic is now twincharged hnoes: ... intake air follows this path intake td05 turbocharger custom intercooler jackson racing supercharger engine don't need to mention that both jason and i got spanked
lol, well besides the turbocharged & supercharged civic, how were ya'lls runs? Sorry I bailed early, but I was dead tired and starving. Oh, and hope to see everyone I met today at the next event.
I think that lotus was in the novice at the SCCA last event, he dnfed a few times. He was definately still figuring out the car. I hope everyone had a good time. How did they set up the autox on the track? I was at roebling road with the honda redline club on saturday, so i couldn't make it. Hopefully i'll see people at the subaru challenge in october. Oh and i've been convinced to paint my autox rims pink.
Sweet! Hope you had fun at the track day. The lot was pretty slick and dusty in some areas, which made driving more interesting. The course today punished me hard for not taking the correct line around the middle of the course. It started with a slalom and then there was room to pick up some speed. There were a few kinks and an offset box thrown in to keep speeds reasonable. After that, there were a few connected sweepers and then the end of the course was pretty techincal (IMHO).
the course seemed to offer low grip... couldve been because the course was dusty in some sections and also because i had some tire shine on my tires from the last wash... it was a nice high speed course for the most part... i didn't like the last section at all... turn was too tight and i fell completely out of boost... had to shift back into 1st... thank god my car lets me shift into 1st on a roll... the last slalom before the finish was too tight and offset... plus the surface was REAL bumpy on that part of the slalom... they also had minimal runoff after the finish... after my last run (which was my best run) i went straight into a cone or 2 after i crossed the finish
Yeah, while walking the course, the tight slalom before the finish didn't seem that bumpy, but when I was actually driving through there I had a hard time being smooth through the bumps. The lack of grip was frustrating as well. I'm not a good enough driver to compesate for it. Hope I was able to give you some useful advice about the course Milo.
i had a freaking blast even though my best run was a good 10 seconds slower than most of those civics and similar cars. i think some sway bars would be a good investment along with some grippier tires than the RE92's, cos i was squealing like crazy during those 180's not even keeping on the throttle. Those offset boxes in the middle of the course spanked me, didn't even notice them in the course walk through and went into one going about 50 on the wrong line, got lucky. no cones knocked over though, yes! Will definately go out again sometime.
thanks a lot wayne... the advice, especially about the last section helped out... i didnt end up going too hot into the last slalom until my 4th run
